5Great TV with minimal flaws; excellent deal!
By HawkeyeCC
This is a 4.5 star review.FYI: I am coming from a Magnavox 37" 60 Hz LCD HDTV.The Good:The picture on this set is the best thing about it. The HD picture is phenomenal with Blu-ray providing the best picture of all. I have watched multiple sporting events including The French Open, Wimbledon, The NBA Finals, and others and the action looks fantastic. I do not notice blur even with the high-speed movement of a tennis ball across the screen. (See "The Bad" below for caveat). The color contrast on this unit sets it apart from many others as colors are incredibly vivid. They give a new pleasure to viewing golf and really scenic shows as you can appreciate detail you never did before. My wife even admits objects and people "jump out" at her because of the clarity and vivid colors. The picture settings allow tremendous variation and customization. There is contrast, brightness, color, tint, sharpness, color temperature, dynamic contrast, digital natural motion, digital noise reduction, MPEG artifact reduction, color enhancement, active control, picture format, mode selection, and horizontal/vertical shift. If that sounds daunting to customize, it isn't because there is a feature called "settings assistant" when you first turn on the TV which walks you through a series of split screen pictures where you pick the best looking image and it automatically picks your preferred settings. (Also see my settings below if you want to try them.) Awesome feature!!!The TV is very large but still looks great mounted on my wall with a low-profile mount because it is so thin (about average thickness for an LED compared to other models). Its picture is also very good even at a wide angle of view.Sound is actually not that bad out of the box though you should still hook it up to a surround sound system in my opinion. The price of this unit was phenomenal for the quality of the TV that it is. It is also energy-efficient.Great connectivity with 4 HDMI inputs. The Bad:This TV takes 13 seconds to turn on before you get the initial screen and 16 seconds before you actually get input from the cable box. It does have a blinking LED light to let you know it is turning on, but this is incredibly long for an electronic device to turn on.If you watch a scrolling news or sports bar (such ESPN or CNN), there is some blurring of the words. This is better than my old 37" 60 Hz LCD, but still noticeable on this unit. Interestingly, I don't really notice blurring with actual sports action. When the screen is completely black, it clearly has patchy illumination from the edge-lit LED technology, but this is not at all noticeable when watching an actual program. It has only one digital audio out in the form of a coaxial cable. It does not have a digital optical out or an analog RCA out, so realize this if you want to hook it up to an audio system that does not support a digital format (such as Zvox and others). Also, it can't hook directly up to a ps3 as the ps3 has only a digital optical input. (The HDMI input will provide audio, but inferior in quality to a separate digital feed.)My video settings in case you're interested:Contrast: 100Brightness: 50Color: 56Tint: -10Sharpness: 8Color Temperature: CoolDynamic Contrast: OffDigital Natural Motion: OffDigital Noise Reduction: OffMPEG artifact reduction: OnColor Enhancement: OnActive Control: OffOverall, I am extremely happy with this purchase and highly recommend this unit if at the right price!

5The Best TV
By lee
The picture of the Philips is amazing. I have a regular Sony dvd player, but when friends come over they ask is it a blue-ray movie .I am very pleased with this TV.I currently have 4 flat screens, and I thought the picture quality was good. It wasn't until I brought this one home, and saw the difference. The detail in the picture will have you going back to watch all of your old dvd movies, because thereis so much more detail in the picture.

We upgraded to this TV from a 46" Vizio and what the difference! The picture quality is incredibly sharp and the colors are pure white/black.
