As advertised

After extensive research to find a modestly-priced 26" LCD HDTV to replace my old 19" one, I settled on this one. There were several in the general price range, but what sold me was on this one was 1) 1080p and 2) the fact that it claimed to have technology which keeps the volume at the same level during programs and commercials. In spite of the recent federal law outlawing loud commercials, I haven't noticed any change yet, so I was eager to see if the Haier lived up to its promises. So far, I have been pleased. I have not noticed decibel changes between networks or between programs and ads. I don't think it's perfect, but it is a BIG improvement. The picture and color are great and it was easy to set up. And I had amazing delivery service - it arrived within 36 hours, having come across the continent, and the shipping was free!

my experience: not good!
By Jazzmankg
The major problem I had was that the unit stopped turning on. There was some trouble in the beginning getting to turn on by attributed that to "new set powering up" or remote key combination thing. Within a day it lost some of the hd channels it had found. Then I tried resetting it by reconnecting the cable. It showed the screen and no signal and then boom nothing. Stopped turning on. While it was working I can't really complain about the picture. As the clarity of 1080 resolution is superior to my older Sony Bravia model.Assuming this one I bought was a lemon there are 2 other bad things with the operation:Adding favorite channels is completely cumbersome. In order to add a fav channel you have to memorize the channel you found then go to menu scroll to that menu item, hit the menu item scroll to the favs, then scroll thru the list of channels from the bottom to the top very slowly. There is also no dot (.) on the remote. Which means you can't dial the channel manually completely which is pretty dumb since HD channels are usually written with a dot (ie. 2.1 which is CBS HD channel in NYC)

Haier is a Contender

Overall I'm pretty impressed with this TV. The picture quality is really excellent, however there is noticeable brightness around the edges of the screen, especially when viewing a dark image. Sound is adequate for a flat screen of this size...if you plan to use this in the kitchen, small bedroom, etc then it will work fine. The stand on this is truly something I'm happy about, as it allows you to tilt the TV up and down - something that is very important to getting a good picture. Also, the viewing angle is good on this TV - something that lesser displays often have a very hard time with. I have not used this with Cable TV yet, but viewing 1080P Xbox360 content through HDMI is great, and viewing movies via my PC through HDMI is equally excellent...the picture quality is good enough to use for a monitor and there are no cut off edges that some TVs do when viewing 1080P from a PC.Quick Summary:PROs:*Excellent image quality/viewing angle, especially for this price*Passable sound quality for most intended uses of a smaller TV*Works great with a computer via HDMI*Stand is tilt-able which is hard to find in an inexpensive smaller TV*Box that it comes in has a handle, so if you plan to transport this from time to time it will work great*My Sony remote control does most of the functions of the Haier remote, so shouldn't be a problem programming with all-in-onesCONs:*Light bleed around edge of the screen, especially noticeable when viewing a dark image*Only 1 HDMI port, which is unfortunate for such a fantastic TV*Red LED light that shines when power is OFF is extremely bright, and somewhat annoying...but the blue light when it's ON is fine*Had to use an exacto knife (boxcutter type knife) to get off some of the plastic film that protects shiny surfaces on TVs...because it was evidently put on one part and then another part was attached to the TV, blocking removal of the protective film
