5Great TV at a great price!
By Jeff Jones
We purchased this TV on Black Friday. Wasn't expecting too much from it since the price point is so low. However, it has an excellect picture and we love it! We bought it for the bedroom. I wish we had bought another for the living room now! Highly recommended.

2Fine until it died
By kkc
This was a fairly average television that I bought cheap around christmas. It died about two months later and, now going on week 5 of the warranty claim process, no one seems to be able to tell me any progress is being made.Video was excellent, audio was a bit below par, and the company has as of yet to show any usefulness.Edit Update: It took around 8 weeks to get through the warranty process. They have no notification system so you have to keep calling customer service for updates (many of which will be 'in processing'). They lost my paperwork once, but were fairly quick to find it when I told them exactly to whom and when it was e-mailed. In the end they replaced the unit with a refurbished one that seems to be working fine. Here's hoping that I won't have to do this again in two months.

5Great TV for the price
By Big Mike
I was able to get this in a black friday special for $300 and it was well worth it. I was a little skeptical about Haier because I had never heard of the brand. However, after 4 months of use it is great. HD Quality is great and it has 3 hdmi inputs and looks sleak. I am very happy i purchased this TV.

5Sony quality for generic price.
By Martin
This is my first venture in the HDTV era. I patiently waited for years waiting for price drops. LCD HDTV's have finally become affordable and something rare... Sony has come out with an affortable decent size HDTV. This tv is sharp both aesthetically and the picture. I never saw this tv in person so I had no idea the bottom was clear plastic. It looks like solid silver in the pictures but it is clear in fact. It makes it look that much better. The sound is not great but HDTV's are meant to be paired with entertainment speakers. There are two HDMI slots and tons of component slots. The TV is solid in short. I paired the TV with a sony upconverter (Which I will review as well), and that did wonders to my DVD collection. The picture was not near HD quality but it was without a doubt better than ever before. It did improve the picture and the colors are vivid and bright. I have standard expanded cable service and plugged the cable in before turning on the tv for the first time. When I turned on the tv it automatically searched for chanels and to my astonishment, found 30 digital channels and all local chanels in HD! Straight out of the cable! No box necessary! This made me think cable companies are ripping people off renting out HD boxes. My cable company (Cox) has told me and advertised the HD channels can only be accessed through their special HD box. This is true if you want MTV and 12 other cable channels in HD but not local channels. Needless to say, It was a very pleasant surprise as I don't have to pay 17 bucks a month extra to see HD content. The second HDMI cable was used by my PS3. I don't need to say anything else but I'm in heaven. Here is the best part, this tv is one of the cheapest on the market and it's a Sony! Morevoer, the shipping was free and no taxes! I checked the best buy website and found I would be paying 70 bucks more at my local store! Highly recommended.

5The choice was easy for me...
By M. S. Kubota
WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR: Cheap-ish 32" widescreen with a flat-black cabinet for my bedroom. I already have a 32" Viewsonic in the other room. Although that was about $150 less, it shows. I wanted something one notch up. Plus, my experience with reliability and service was a nightmare with the Viewsonic.WHAT I GOT: Let me start by saying I can't understand for the life of me why 90% of TVs today have glossy black cabinets. Isn't the last thing you want near or on your TV something shiny or reflective? Stupid fashion statement. Maybe it's just me, but I'm more busy looking at what's inside of the rectangle- not outside of it. So this pretty much narrowed it down to this TV alone. Amazon had a killer deal on the Samsung LN32A450 when I bought the Sony, and wherever you look it says the Samsung has a better picture. And when I saw the two at a store I would have to agree- just by a bit. But that shiny glossy cabinet was the deal breaker for me. Again- I just don't get it. The Sony is all I want it to be- and a little bit more. Very good picture, a cabinet that doesn't shout for attention, decent menus, logical input menu, etc. The channel switching is a tad slower than past Sony's I've owned, but still not nearly as slow as various Philips, Magnavoxs, Viewsonics, etc. that I've used. The unexpected bonus was after connecting it to my standard (not digital) Comcast cable, I noticed that I can pick up local HD channels. This is something I was not able to do with my Viewsonic. Perfect for the Olympics!!! Not ready for a bigger cable bill, my intention for this TV was just to watch DVDs in WS and the rest in 4:3. This was a nice surprise! The bottom line is I doubt you will find a better TV all-around for this kind of money. Unless you're a hard core videophile who spends a lot of time with calibration discs and watching reference material looking for shadows and artifacts, you will not be disappointed with this set. And if you are, go ahead and spend 50% more you lucky guy/gal! And if you're considering lesser brand names to save $100 or so, I would say save up a bit and move one step up. You'll probably own the TV for another 6-8 years so think how little that is per year.

4Great display and ATSC tuner; good sound
By Mitch Chapman
I recently purchased this item from another vendor.Picture quality is very good to my eyes. The blacks are black, not washed out as on, say, a Westinghouse lvm37-w3. Sound from the built-in speakers is good, but nothing to compare with external amplified speakers. The built-in ATSC tuner does a great job.Setting up the channel list was easy and took only a couple of minutes, but I do wish there were an obvious way to skip analog channels during setup. I don't have cable and didn't want to include any analog channels in the channel list. Since they were automatically identified, I had to manually hide them once channel setup was complete.Of course, it will be easy to skip analog over-the-air channels after February 2009 :)I wanted to set up a laptop with a TV tuner, for use as a DVR. It was easy to connect to the Sony. I'm using a MacBook, so for the video connection I used a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter connected to a DVI-D to HDMI cable. For audio I used a 3.5mm male to 2 RCA-type male audio y-cable. With the cables connected and the TV turned on, the MacBook recognized the display and automatically configured it to 1280x720 resolution, without so much as popping up a preference pane. The owner's manual warns not to connect a PC to the HDMI ports, and to use the RGB IN port instead; I'm not sure why, or whether this is specific to PCs with VGA video-out ports. Given the MacBook's Mini-DVI video port, I guessed the warning didn't apply to it.Pros: * Very good picture quality * Good ATSC tuner * Plays well with computersCons: * No obvious way to skip analog over-the-air channels during channel setup

3Great TV, But Beware of Electronics Expo!!!!!!!!
By Israel A. Ramirez
I purchased this the 52 inch version of this product through Amazon from Electronics Expo. I received the TV on time, spent 5 hours setting it up with my home theater and making sure everything was perfect. The picture quality is absolutely amazing. 4 Days later while watching the basketball game, the TV made a loud popping noise and turned off. I was unable to get a picture after that. I contacted Electronics Expo thinking they would just send me a new one since the one I bought was defective. Boy, was I wrong. The person I spoke to went on for several minutes about their policy and made me feel like it was my fault the TV died. He said there was nothing they could do and asked me to call Samsung. I then contacted Samsung and was told they would need to send a service tech out to look at the TV but it would be about a week before he could come out. I had no choice so I waited, took the day off from work when he was scheduled and then he didn't even come out. He called me the day of and asked what the problem was and I told him. He said there was no need for him to come since he knew what was wrong with the TV. He said he would have to replace the panel but did not have any available and would have to order one. He said they would call me to re-schedule the service. It has now been 3 weeks and I am still without a TV. I have contacted Samsung and they tell me to call the local service center but when I do I get an answering machine. I tried contacting Electronics Expo to see if they could call Samsung on my behalf. I was made to feel like a nuisance but afetr talking to a supervisor she took my information and said she would call Samsung on my behalf and would call me back to let me know what they said. I never heard back from her. Needless to say, this purchase has been a nightmare. I had to send in my credit card payment for the purchase price of the TV already. It doesn't feel good paying over 2 grand for a product that doesn't work. I am not giving this TV a bad rating, it is a wonderful TV, but I feel its necessary to warn other people before they purchase through Electronics Expo.

5Fantastic TV-great customer support
By K. Wilson
This is the best TV I have ever owned and if you are in the market for a 46" LCD, Amazon has a great price. I purchased mine back in October for $700 more than the current price - sometimes it pays to wait I guess. Sound, picture, features are all fantastic. After checking many review sites I went with this unit and am glad I did. The touch of color (TOC) is subtle but shows just enough to add a nice aesthetic look.I rated this TV five stars although I did have a minor issue detailed below. Samsung took care of the issue and the overall TV has continued to please. The only negative, which I have to preface is known by Samsung and they take care of promptly is a rare "chipping" issue with the TOC frame setup on some of the 750s and 850/860s due to a few bad shipments (happened to mine). However, Samsung promptly fixed this free of charge with no known reoccurrence (as per the repairman that has done several of these repairs). Samsung's customer service, at least on LCD TVs, is outstanding with both email and phone call followups to insure that the customer is satisfied with the repair work. The repairman assigned by Samsung came out, replaced the entire TOC frame on the TV and I haven't had any other issues. As stated above, the actual electronics/LCD elements of this TV itself are fantastic and with Samsung readily and promptly fixing the frame issue, I still have to say that this was a great purchase. The Super Bowl never looked better and the 120hz performed beautifully. Our friends couldn't get over the picture they were watching as the Steelers one upped the hapless Cardinals in fantastic receiving catches.

4great tv bad remote
By T. Leonard
The LN46A860 has a great picture but has a less than adequate remote controller. The batteries in the remote only last a few weeks and I can not get it to control my Scientific Atlanta 4200HD cable box. I contacted Samsung tech support but they were unable to help. Great picture, bad remote and tech support.

5GREAT TV FOR THE MONEY!
By Sean T. Johnston
I had been researching HDTVs for the past 6 months before finally, settling on this model. I decided to go with the Plasma over the LCD mainly, because plasma offers much better PQ and motion for the money and I didn't want to sacrifice size. The new Pioneers are very nice but way too expensive if you ask me. So it came down to the Samsung 5084 or one of the Panasonic 1080p models. For a long time the specs of the Samsung had me leaning that way. However, after seeing one in person I was not that impressed, it looked cheap. Panasonic also has a much better track record for reliability when it comes to Plasmas (they are rated for 100,000 hours vs. 50,000 - 60,000 hours of other manufactures). No knock on Samsung they make great LCDs check out there 71 or 81 series. The 3 current Panasonic models are the PZ77U, PZ700U, PZ750U. The 3 models can all be purchased within about $250 of each other (MSRP range from $2800 to $3500). The 77U and 700U are almost identical with the exception that the PZ77U has an anti-glare screen and the PZ700U has a slightly upgraded speakers package (who buys a 50" plasma for speakers anyway?). The 750U adds to the 700U a third HDMI input and more picture settings (I was going to go with this model but the HDMI input is right in the middle front of the TV?). Panasonic has a very highly rated anti-glare screen, not to be confused with anti-glare coating found on the 700U and 750U; they are not the same thing. I went with this model because the anti-glare screen actually increases the contrast. So far I have had it for 3 months and been extremely happy with my purchase from 6ave.

4For $2000, you can't go wrong
By Scott Rodriguez
This was on sale at Circuit City for $2k. I almost thought something was wrong, but that was indeed the sale. I picked it up and almost immediately was disappointed by the lack of pop in colors compared to my LCD 4665.Turns out that I was just watching a bad source, in daylight. Once the night came, and HD channels were on...things got better - a lot better. I went to the store again to compare the picture on this to the 700 which has a glossy screen, and I honestly couldn't not tell a difference when looking at them from dead on. One looks like it has glass, and that's about it.The whites are not pure white on this, or hardly any other plasma. But the darks are yummy and perfect. SD stinks, but HD sources really shine. If you can get a good deal on this - you can't go wrong!I would like to see more control over the tweeking features, but the picture looks great, so I'm not complaining too much.I definitely prefer this to my old LCD...the motion on it is smoother - no blur when the camera pans. The darks are REALLY dark and uniform. At 50" it's a movie experience!

5Just an awesome TV-even without HD sources
By John Hensler
After a lengthy research period, I finally settled on the 50" PZ77U. I'm happy to report that after two weeks of use the experience has been fantastic. First off, the picture is just gorgeous. Of course I expected that with HD cable and a Blu-Ray (PS3) player -- it's jaw-droppingly great -- but I was very impressed with the SD picture of this unit. Sure, it pales in comparison to HD, but the SD channels don't have that processed look that makes everything appear like it's been through a photoshop watercolor filter. I've seen that on a number of LCDs and plasmas before and it drives me nuts. Remember, they never will show a SD signal to you at most stores-- it's always a sharp HD signal. The good SD clarity is even more impressive for a 50" model.I'm still in the break-in period-- trying to make sure the phosphors burn in easily; I downloaded a burn-in disc from eaprogramming.com, which has been helpful.Lastly, a few nice words for the purchase experience via Amazon and 6ave: The unit was shipped to my home in Michigan within a week; upon delivery the unit was inspected as required; everything was great. I'd certainly use 6ave again.

5Toshiba figured it out!...
By Someone said so...
Let's just say I have had my experiences with LCD TV's. I have a Westinghouse (which has 67+ Reviews on Crutchfield alone, a Sharp and a Samsung) With all that said, this Toshiba puts them all to shame. All the Extras hooked up: PS3, HDTV Sat, HDTV Over Air and of course SD Sat; without any doubt this TV on a whole Blows away the competition (coming from a Die Hard SONY fan) The important stuff; 3 HDMI inputs, TV Optical Out, Ability to select Direct Input when changing Video Inputs(this is important when programming Universal Remotes), A ton of Video Settings and of course it is simply Beautiful.Designed in the image of the Classic Sleek pricey Pioneer Elites or the always gorgeous hard to find LG LCD sets; it's absolutely clean on the outside in the surrounding fairly thin jet Black Bezel...The speakers are hidden, but yet they sound amazing(Adjustable settings). The Picture in SD is beyond ANY other I have seen on an LCD. In HD the set will blow you away, guaranteed! Over the Air reception of HD is spectacular; I picked up 10 channels (5 HD) I did not have before. My PS3 comes to life, especially in Game Mode; all this and I have no space to mention the PC input. The Remote is better than most TV Universal remotes, with the odd exception of it not having a direct on/off CC button(Odd!)..Toshiba has truly figured it out and has set a New Bar for all those "other" Manufacturers to follow. Go compare all the specs on Crutchfield! But Do not let the Amazon price fool you; Toshiba has given the best absolute quality at below average Name Brand pricing...Everyone I have shown the set to, has been in Awe!...then when they hear the price, Forget about it!

5Great Buy, Great Quality
By C. Ragsdale
I pondered for quite a while on a Panasonic plasma or this Toshiba LCD. After having seen the Panasonic in lineups at a few stores and noticing how head and heels above all the others it was, I really wanted it. But after reading reviews and pros and cons about Plasma versus LCD and all of that...I couldn't quite shake loose the price of the plasma set. I continued studying and came to this Toshiba Regza...I read some online reviews and Toshiba's own facts.I decided I would take a chance on the Regza and save 400 bucks in the process.I ordered it from Amazon.com. They shipped it via their 'white glove' delivery service. I live in Arizona and it came from Pennsylvania...intact, no problems! And Amazon covered the freight! Can't beat that.I was a little perturbed at first , because I have no HDMI connections on any other equipment I have, so had to do a little engineering to get it all connected correctly. The booklet with the set, was a little weak on hook ups. So you might need to know, or have someone who knows how, when you hook it up. Especially if you have any components. My stuff is older...as I don't or can't buy NEW equipment every six months when they change as fast as they do now. Long story short, I managed to hook everything up and got my surround sound working and DVD/VCR combo too, and cable box, (although I want to go back to DirecTV). For my local HD channels I connected the Terk antenna described here in one of my other reviews. You cannot go wrong with it for local HD or Digital channels, so check that out.Watched the Indy 500 and the Coca Cola 600 today in HD and both were excellent! Have to say the FOX HD on the Nascar race was superior! Excellent TV, Excellent picture quality and fairly easy to use controls and remote. The stand and tv build took about 5 minutes. I , for one...don't like the fact that most TV stands now , cost as much as a TV should. So, I went to Home Depot , bought some red oak for about 80 bucks and built my own stand!Overall Excellent buy and highly recommended!UPDATE: 1 YEAR LATER...still EXCELLENT and I UPGRADED! Now have HDMI DVD and HDMI receiver...sound quality and video quality even MORE improved! Only BluRay could be better and not sure how much!

5Excellent Value
By Artset Outset
First, thanks to all of you who have posted reviews. They are a tremendous help in making purchasing decisions. After receiving word from a Circuit City salesman that they make no attempt to adjust the demos on the floor, I realized that I had little else to work with. It only takes a slight difference in the brightness and/or contrast settings of side-by-side units to influence an opinion. This LCD HDTV has a great picture. I have several sources, but the over-the-air HD broadcast channels are by far the best. I cannot imagine a better picture. I did cycle through the menu and made some adjustments to the "out of the box" settings to optimize it. Yes, it is a 720p as opposed to a 1080p but I doubt my eyes would ever detect the difference and 1080p sources are only a future possibility for me. The color across the spectrum is close, but not perfect. Skin tones are excellent. Contrast is very good. I have watched a lot of sports and have seen no problems with response lags. I am an electrical engineer and I understand all of the specifications. I agonized over them at length. So what? Your eyes tell the story.Audio is typical. The expectation of home theater quality is unrealistic. I like the volume leveler cicuit. Loud advertisements make me crazy. I haven't tried routing the audio output to my home theater system, yet, so I don't know whether I will get "Stable Sound" or not.Eagle did an excellent job with delivery. It took 2 weeks from when I placed the order to receive the unit. They called in advance to schedule the delivery and called an hour before they arrived. The two guys attached the stand and waited for me to turn it on before they left. This was a courtesy offered so they could take the packaging with them. They informed me that had the unit been DOA or defective, they could not have taken it with them at that time. They also told me that they had delivered over 500 flat screen TVs of various types and had never had one that was DOA or defective. They said that many of their deliveries had been for refurb units. I guess that information would make me feel even worse if I was one of the reviewers that had experienced disaster. What could be improved?-It only has one coax input. I would like to have one for ATSC and another for NTSC. I did not find another choice that had this available.-The VGA input has a limit of 1024x768. The full native resolution would have been better. I am going to go to a video card with a DVI output in my PC using a DVI to HDMI adapter cable to overcome this limitation. I hope that works. I haven't tried an HDMI input, yet.-The station recall feature on the remote does not understand the subchannels (ex 58-1) and is useless for the over-the-air digital source. It reverts to the analog channel (ex 58.)-When you mute the sound, it defaults to CC display. This is actually a nice feature except that when I change it via the menu, it reverts back the next time I cycle power.- The remote is solid but not arranged completely the way I would have expected and I am going through a learning curve. Every manufacturer does things differently. I wish it was backlit.I hope this helps you. Circuit City had this unit for $1500 after taxes. I paid $1200 through Amazon. I like the idea of being able to return the unit "for any reason," but I am too cheap to buy the peace of mind.
