5Nice TV, even if a bit pricey
By T-Rev
Never really concentrated to much on the sony products because of the prices of them. For the money, you can get a larger sized samsung like a 32", or for the same size TV you can save big bucks by going with a westinghouse or other bargain priced TV's sized at 26" which is ideal for a bedroom. After purchasing a 26" westinghouse and not being extremely happy I bought a 32" Vizio. Still not satisfied, I left the bargain TV basement and took the plunge and bought this TV. Wow, what a difference. At $300-$400 dollars more than the westy, I'm not sure if it's that much better if tied to a budget, but if you've got it (cash), get it (sony). As far as specs go, read the description, but rest assured this TV is really nice. Sound is better than expected for a 26", menus are nice, picture is B.A. On XBOX 360, the best and most graphically demanding game is by far Gears of War. This TV makes it look incredible. The darks are dark enough in the spooky parts unlike other TVs I've tried out which looked washed out and lame. This set really makes the whole thing look alot better. I have been switching between the 3 presets (vivid, cinema, standard) and haven't made any tweaks yet exept for turning on the dynamic lighting. I'm sure you could make the picture even better with some adjustments but it's unnecessary.

5great LCD TV
By ALKJ
I am very happy with the sony lcd tv. I narrowed down the 26" lcd tv's to a couple and checked them out at local stores. I liked the picture of the sony over samsung which was my 2nd choice. plus the sony did not have large speakers on the sides or bottom making it too large for the small opening in my entertainment center. the price was comparable and sony quality has always been good for me.

5Owned this for a week now.
By Oh_Please
This LCD is great, i was nervous because it is the first flat screen that the wife and I have ever bought. We set it up and it was a breeze, plugged our DVD player in and it also worked great. The picture quality with standard TV is very nice, but the HD picture quality is superb. I had to adjust the picture settings out of the box, but that is to be expected. Over all, I am very, very pleased with this product and Amazon's quick delivery.

5Read before purchasing
By David L. Howell
Just wanted to give potential buyers a heads up on this TV. There are two models of this 46 inch TV that are almost identical and this can be confusing as you search for TV's that are LED, 120hz and internet connectable, both are but there are differences. One model is the 46PFL7705D/F7 and the other available model is the 46PFL7705DV/F7. The only difference being the "V". Here are the differences, the "V" model comes with Voodo software, MediaConnect Quick setup guide and USB Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11 b/g/n adapter. Per Philips technical service, the non "V" model is internet connectable via ethernet cable only, it is not wireless ready. If you want the wireless version get the "V" model. Also know that you can go to Philips.com, select products, select 7000 series and then do a comparison of the two models. There is a box you can select that shows spec differences only. Trouble is, it shows no differences in the the two models at all as of this date (1-17-2011). But if you do a comparison of the 40 inch versions rather than the 46 inch version 7000 series TV's, "V" version verses the non "V" version, the differences do show up. I told the tech at Philips this info and he said he would report the problem. Anyway, just trying to help potential purchasers buy what they want and clear up the confusion here. (By the way, this probably explains the problem that reviewer Peter Pan is having). I bought the "V" version but it is in transit to me now. I wanted to get this info out, didn't want to hurt the ratings so I gave 5 stars even though I don't have it yet. Hope this helps.

5Just great - love it
By Peter Pan
Bought the Philips 46PFL7705D/F7 last week with free shipping and five days later it showed up by white glove delivery service, perfectly at the scheduled time. Really loved the fact that I was able to plan my day around a narrow shipping arrival time. The picture quality, the contrast, the light, the colors are all amazing, and all this with the energy efficient LED technology. LEDs should also exhibit a longer lifetime than other illumination systems. To my surprise, the TV itself also comes with a great sound quality. I feel no need to attach it to a separate surround sound system. This keeps the overall cost and cable mess at the lowest.Everything works well, laptop connected via HDMI (just make sure to reboot the computer so it is recognized), with perfect HD movie and sound quality on the screen. Also internet radio on the TV works perfectly, showing the most popular radio stations from the US, Germany, France, etc... that was a cool surprise for me to be able to listen to German news. The TV did not come with a wireless adapter, which surprised me.When I called Philips though, they said they would ship me one for free.Unfortunately I was not able to make Netflix movies stream under the NET-TV feature of this TV, although it does get an internet connection with Netflix (that is, I can see the titles in instant queue). Called all service hotlines (Philips, Netflix and Cisco - my router). All of them were really patient and helpful, at no cost, but nobody could solve it. I also had an IT expert in my home for half a day, and he also couldn't make it stream movies. Most likely, we concluded, the TV is demanding faster content supply than my wireless G router is able to supply. The probable solution will be to upgrade to a wireless N router with Gigabit LAN ports. The result is to be seen when I get the new router.Since I bought a latest technology TV, I am willing to face the fact that I also better have a latest technology router to support it. Surprising is that neither Philips, nor Cisco, nor Netflix really believe that to be necessary, but it seems it is.Another anomaly was that the TV software was a newer version than the latest version that is available for download from the Philips support website. It just shows again that this is truly the latest and the greatest. One little negative is that the TV only supports 60HZ according to the label on the backside, which is fine so long you live in the USA.Usually such TV's do not work in a country with 50HZ, so I am not sure this one will. You may want to consider this point if you plan to move to another country in the near term.Overall, however, I rate the TV a five star product. It is a pure joy. Congratulations to Philips!

5Everything I wanted and more for Price Point!
By J. E. Wilmoth
Fantastic picture. Fantastic sound. Great contrast ratio.I do not understand the negative reviews. Are there TVs over 2K that look better than TVs under 1K? I'm sure there are but that is a silly comparison in my book. Look at any TV in the price range as this Phillips (which I did) and only the Samsung that was LCD/LED backlit was comparable.Feature rich too.

5Beautiful picture, great price.
By Farmboyz
I was able to talk this tv down to $820 (Canadian). For that money, you can't beat it. Especially for an LED tv, and the size. It's positively enormous in our average (14ish feet across) living room.THE PROS:- It produces bright, vivid, accurate colours- Deep blacks, with no hints of blue- Impressive bright whites, which don't bleed, at all. (Even at full contrast)- Muted tones are reproduced nicely- Lots of inputs! (Four HDMI, two component, VGA, etc)- Attractive design. It has a shiny, black bezel with a clear edge.- Super thin profile.- 15-degree swivel stand gives good rear access- Price!- Pre-set viewing modes do a decent job (especially sports & movie)- Sharp details with next-to-no artifacts (once calibrated and silly features are turned off)- Led backlight is brilliant- Can plug a USB key in and listen to music or watch video- PC connectionTHE CONS:- Needs lots of calibrating (turn off all the crap!....no need for noise reduction & dynamic contrast)- Pre-set modes can't be modified- Contrast ratio is bit low, so the dynamic contrast can jump a lot (can be turned off in Personal Mode)- Picky eyes (like mine) will see a hint of red/yellow in the whites- Only one audio out, and it's digital coax- Speakers fire rearwards, so I find that too much "stray" sound is travelling around the house- file understanding (with USB key) is limited to mp3 & aviSome people will complain that it has no ethernet connection and can't stream things like Netflix. I think this is moot. Considering that you can do this from so many devices. I don't care if I do that from by Blu-Ray player, tv, Wii, or whatever.Overall, this tv is a great buy. I'm extremely happy with it.

3Bad colors
By zBriGuy
I was excited when I found this very affordable TV with all the bells and whistles I was looking for. It really is a solid TV all around with almost everything you could ask for. I was however very dissapointed with how the colors looked on screen. The picture looks fine until you see any solid primary color (especially red). The colors get oversaturated and scream out LOOK AT ME!!! It is very distracting and I wound up returning this TV because of it. This issue was reproduced using a variety of sources (cable, XBOX, DVD), source resolutions (480, 720i&p, 1080i&p), connection cables (including HDMI) and tweaking all the settings I could. I could have just got a lemon, but I would recommend anyone considering this TV get a good look at one first andmake sure you are happy with the colors before you decide to get it.

5Can not be beat for the price.
By Scott D. Ellingson
I bought this television at a "Club" store, not Amazon. I paid under $700 for it. I could not believe a 46" 120hz LED TV for under $700. I got it home and within an hour the picture went black. I tapped on the TV and it came on again. I knew I had a bad TV then. I called Philips first thing Sat morning. I waited on hold less than 30 sec. I explained the issue and what I did to correct it. They said I could get it repaired or take it back to the store. I of course took it back to exchange it. Support was very friendly and helpful. On the second try I had better success. This one worked great. The picture is not perfect, but good. I did not expect a $1400 Samsung picture, but it has a pretty good picture. Good color, very crisp and clear, just a little lacking on the blacks. Overall I am happy. I gave it 5 stars because I believe I just got unlucky with the first one. It can happen with any brand. If you want a good TV for a low price, this is a good choice. I did pay $75 for an extra 3 years on the warranty. Even with that, the cost was well below the next cheapest 46" TV. If it dies after that, I will get a new one. The way the price is comming down on these TV's they will probibly pay me to take the net one :)

5Great LCD TV
By Thoreau Bartman
When my old 36 inch CRT finally went bust I was ready to upgrade to a flat panel. And after a ton of research I settled on this one. And I think I made a great choice. From what I have read, it doesn't seem to make much of a difference actually checking out the TVs in the stores because their settings are way off etc etc. This TV was picked as the second best LCD (behind the much more expensive sony) by the CNET editors, and from everything I was able to track down this new TV looked like a winner. So I just bought online from amazon without actually seeing it in person. Which turned out great! The delivery company (eagle) was very fast and nice (although I did call them and they did NOT have my number-very glad I called). They came in and helped me set it up, and even helped me move my old enormous one out of the way.The TV is beautiful! HD programming is simply amazing. Just amazing. I have never seen something this nice on TV before. DVDs look just ok compared to it. Like on all HD tvs, standard defintion programming and DVDs don't look quite as good as on my old CRT, but it is very close. The connectivity is great, (even better than the devices I am connecting it to actually). The glossy black finish is pretty cool-although it does get dusty pretty fast. And the surround sound is darn good as well. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. The only problem I have found so far is that occasionally the sound will go out for some reason. If I change input sources or turn the TV off and then on again it comes back, but still-it is a concern.UPDATE!The sound problem was bugging me, and I eventually called samsung customer service. After a few fruitless merry go rounds I was finally directed to something called "Tier 2" customer service. Apparently this sound drop out problemis a known issue with this TV, and they have a very easy firmware update fix. They are overnighting me a thumbdrive with the updated firmware and said that it would entirely fix the sound problem. I think it is pretty cool that they are going so far as to send me an actual thumbdrive with the firmware on it because I don't have one already.I am very happy with this fix, but will report back if there are any other problems. I am still absolutely loving the TV, despite this sound problem.

5One of the best TVs for the money right now...
By P. Werdel
After months of research about brand, screen size, screen type, and resolution, I settled on this 720p LCD from Samsung. Don't believe the hype about 1080p sets at this size: it is absolutely the case that at this size (40 inch) the difference between the look of 720p and 1080p signals are negligible at the viewing distance most people will sit from their sets (6-10ft). Do yourself a favor and save some cash, unless you absolutely must have the newest tech toy. Me? I'd rather put the $500 toward a pair of speakers that look and sound the part next to this marvelous LCD.Colors are rich, sharp, and with no noticeable ghosting or pixelation. I've heard some folks complain about the hidden speakers sounding muddled, or uninspiring. With a bit of EQ tuning I think they sound fantastic for on-board speakers.Ordered from Amazon on a Monday evening with free shipping (and at $500 less than retail in BB or Circuit City!). The set was at my door by Wednesday afternoon. Unbelievable! No complaints. This is a gorgeous set at a fantastic price.

4One major flaw mars an otherwise excellent TV
By B. Toy
I've spent the last 2 months shopping TVs both online and in-store. I ended up picking this unit as my bedroom TV and am supremely happy with its performance. The pros:Plasma was out because my bedroom is bright and I needed the anti-glare surface of an LCD. LCDs are also lighter so I could handle moving it around myself. It feels lighter than the ~40 pounds it's supposed to weigh.Lots of inputs including 3 (count 'em) HDMI connections. I have an HD Tivo and upconverting DVD player hooked up and still have a spare HDMI port. It's also got 2 sets of component video if you have HD equipment from a couple years ago. There are more inputs that I won't bother listing here since you can get the list elsewhere.Visual quality is stunning with HD signals. 720p and 1080i look amazing though I'd give the nod to 720p for slightly better image quality. High quality standard def signals still look very good. Poor quality signals look worse than you'd expect from a CRT based TV. I sit ~8 feet from the TV (I like the immersion) and barely notice the compression artifacts. I'd rate the noise performance at a very good 8 on a 10 scale. I wouldn't pay the premium for 1080p unless the screen size was encroaching on 60".The included stand swivels. I used to have my 36" Sony Wega Trinitron on a turntable so the included swivel stand is a really nice addition. The high gloss, "piano black" finish isn't as obnoxious as I thought it might be. It also doesn't pick up fingerprints the way I expected. The cons:Switching inputs is painfully slow. Especially when switching to the HDMI connections. The HDMI and component inputs are "on" as long as a cable is plugged in, even if the device is off. So when I want to pass through my DVD player (which is off) to get to my HD Tivo (which is always on). I have to wait for it to scan for a signal, realize it's not detected, and then tell me so on screen before I can move on to the next HDMI input. You can select from the main setup menu, but it takes about as much time as it does to cycle through. For this many inputs, I wish they used the Toshiba method and put up an input menu whenever you hit the source button. Direct input selection buttons on the remote would have been ideal. The stand does have a tendency to lean a couple degrees forward. I'm not concerned, but it's not as sturdy feeling as I'd have liked. It produces as much heat as my 36" Sony CRT did.The picture-in-picture was an afterthought. It doesn't have enough options to be useful. Since I have an HD Tivo and the cable set-top-box, I'd like to be able to set one for HDMI and one for component video. Unfortunately, it only shows me the built-in tuner for the in-set window. My parents have a 15 year-old Mitsubishi that let you select any combination of inputs for PIP.I've had the sound drop-out issue twice over the last week. I'm waiting on Samsung to send me the updated firmware.Bottom line:If it weren't for the incredibly frustrating input selection, I'd consider giving it 5 stars. But this peformance issue is enough to withhold that last star.

5Great Picture & Price
By Angela Johnson
First let me say that I bought this tv for my bedroom. We had a cheaper LCD tv (Emerson) in our room, but it broke after 1 year and can not be repaired! So we have been searching for a few days and it was a toss between Samsung and Sony. We went with Samsung because the picture looked better. I am very pleased that we did. I love all the features and the picture quality. HD is awsome. Glad I spent the extra money for a "name brand" model.

5Exceeded expectations
By K. E. Kelly
My new monitor arrived today, with "white glove service." I was looking for something to replace my 13" TV and 19" monitor (also Samsung; I am a Samsung fan), and this fills the bill perfectly. I am just moderately adept at figuring out how to hook up electronic equipment, but the manual included is very clear and descriptive in explaining what goes where. I had no problem with the video aspect of hooking up the TV to my Mac. I do need to get a longer audio cord, so at this point I can't comment on the computer audio setup. The TV picture and sound are great, even without an HD tuner (I have a broadband basic satellite connection on this second TV), and I had no problem with making adjustments to the picture for viewing in the monitor mode. Shipping was free (Amazon Prime member), and I saved about $40 by ordering through Amazon rather than making the trip to the local Wal-Mart. The delivery service was excellent. Setup was truly "Plug and Play," and, boy, is that refreshing! Very easy to set up and very easy to make adjustments to the picture. For someone who wants a TV/monitor combination for an office or small space, this is perfect.

5Great T.V., great picture, no problems
By Surge
I needed a new T.V. for my apartment this upcoming school year and after doing a lot of looking this one seems to be the best T.V. for the price you can get it for. I couldn't find one single negative review on it on multiple websites. The T.V. has great picture quality and looks great when I play on my Xbox 360. HD channels also look crisp and clear if u have them. Has plenty of inputs so you can hook up plenty of stuff up to it. Since its a Samsung you know you will be getting a quality product which is going to last you.It was easy to set up and its basically plug and watch. The T.V. will do all the work for you, just turn it on and have it auto configure itself and your good to go. Only 2 minor nuisances is that the auto configuration can take awhile but of course its a one time thing so its not like it will matter after the first time. The other is that it takes a long time for it to turn on after pressing the power button. Mine takes approximately 9 seconds for it to turn on after pressing power. When it comes to flaws on a T.v. I would have something as little as that rather than anything else. If you're on the fence about this T.V. I highly recommend to just go for it, you wont regret it.

5Purchased this baby on July 13, 2007 and...
By DBroncos 4 Life
This is my initial review of this television after owning it for about three days. What I love:Watching Blu-Ray in 1080P is just spectacular! I own a PS3 and have a 1.3a HDMI cable for connection and the picture is superb. I watched "The Prestige" and "Casino Royale" in 1080P and was blown away. No pixelation or judder during fast-moving action scenes and the colors and details were impressive. This is clearly what this TV was designed to do. No complaintsI played Ninja Gaiden Sigma(720P) on PS3 and it looked amazing. The background was so beautiful I couldn't even play the game. I was just staring at the details and vivid colors. Once I have broken-in this TV (at least 100-200hrs) I will play more games. I get nervous about image retention. However, this TV comes with "Pixel Shift" which is supposed to help prevent this problem. Also, there are several built-in programs that will help alleviate the problem if, God forbid, there is image retention. I like that very much and it is a nice feature. I talked to an ISF-trained tech from a local store and he told me with these new plasmas that you would have to leave an image for several hours for "burn-in" to occur. He also said that there is no "break-in" period like I said above, but that I should NEVER use the DYNAMIC picture setting because it will turn your plasma into toast. So take this for what it's worth. I am being very cautious with my $3000 newborn. What I like:I have DirecTV HD service and the picture is VERY NICE. There is some pixelation during extremely fast action or explosions, but trust me that is the crappy satellite feed and NOT the plasma. No complaints here. What I think is OK:The SD channels are good, but not great. It definitely varies from channel to channel and this, again, may just be DirecTV. Don't get me wrong they are MUCH better than on my Samsung LCD, just not amazing or anything. I am so spoiled. It's funny, you'll be watching a show in SD and the picture is not so good and then it goes to commercial and they look awesome. I guess what they say is true "Garbage in, Garbage out."Other observations:I only listened to the sound for about 10 minutes because I have 7.1 surround, but it sounded good and that is all I will comment on that.I read that the pevious model Samsung 5054/64 has problems with judder or skipping frames with tickers(CNN,ESPN,etc.) on the bottom of the screen. I don't see this problem and I am LOOKING for it big-time. Nothing that I can detect. Do not worry about this cause it is not a problem.Sorry about the long review, but I know there is not much out there on this one. I can't wait to see what the fellas/gals at CNET or CR have to say. Good Luck and feel free to ask me about anything specific.Update Jan. 7, 2008I have had this tv for 6 months now and I have no regrets. I will say that it can get very hot and doubles as a heater. Especially after watching for several hours. But it is a minor annoyance. The picture is still fantastic and I would put it up against a Pioneer Kuro anyday. It will absolutely destroy a Panasonic. They are very good plasmas, but I would go with SAMSUNG everytime. I saw the price has dipped below $2000 for this set now. People, if you want a 50" 1080p Plasma, DO NOT WAIT. THIS IS YOUR SET. I love it and it is my baby...You can thank me later.

5When I turned it on, I simply said...WOW.
By RW
After a significant amount of research and a post in response to one of the other great reviews here on Amazon regarding this product, I decided to take the plunge. I was looking for a TV that had the following qualitites: 1080P, 3 HDMI inputs a beautiful piano gloss black casing and a reasonable value (Pioneer Elite need not apply). I went to BB to look at all of the TV's both plasma and LCD "side by side." Because I watch mostly sports, I badly needed a smooth picture during fast action. I noticed that even the good LCD's still have frequent pixelization. I decided to go back to a different BB just to double check and I did indeed see the same thing.I have had 2 Panasonic plasma TV's in the past and they were very good, but the Panasonic 1080P model that has 3HDMI inputs is significantly overpriced and just not as physically appealing as the Samsung. When I turned on the TV and switched to an HD channel, I literally said, "WOW." outloud. The difference in brightness, detail, clarity, and picture smoothness were evident immediately over the 50" Panasonic that I had purchased only 6 months ago! I was immediately thrilled with my purchase. After hooking it up to a Toshiba Up-Converting DVD player, I was amazed once again. The picture on this TV is absolutely amazing. Even my wife, who is not a techie, noticed immediately how wonderful the picture is.Positives:-It's hard to imagine a better picture.-3HDMI inputs-1080P capability-Beautiful Piano Gloss Black finish-Great stand that is piano gloss black and also swivels-Very reasonable price point for 1080P-1 Set of inputs on side of TVNegatives:-The speakers are on the side for a cleaner look and the sound is horrible. It's downright bad. Use your surround sound system.-To go from one source to the next you must press the source button several times vs. pressing it and choosing which source you want through directionals on remote.

5Absolutely worth every penny......
By Amanda M. Hamblin
First I would like to say that SD channels do not look very good on this set. But unlike some reviewers, I know this is to be expected. Whenever you have a 480i/p image, spread over 50 inches of screen, and over 2 million pixels, it's a no-braner that quality is going to suffer. So, just deal with it until all or the majority of channels are fed in HD.Now, to the review. First, HD quality is phoenominal, as expected. I have directv and the uality is great. But this pales in comparison to Blue-ray quality. It is razor sharp and superbly colored, even at factory settings. Bottom line is, if you understand that SD on such a Hi-Res and Large screen, is going to be poor, you'll be extremely happy with you're purchase. If you expect every channel to look like a Blue-Ray movie, you'll be very disappointed.Secondly, you need to understand formatting. You're likely going to have to stretch you're image on you're screen. Unless the movie you're watching is in a certain format, it will NOT fill the entire screen. This brings us back to the poor SD quality. If you fill the screen, the image will be stretched in order to do so. This makes the SD quality even worse. But you can't blame the TV, it's the television stations and broadcasters, who are still broadcasting in such a low res, poor quality, that is to blame.Thirdly, the set is a plasma. It draws lots of power and puts out alot of heat. But this is normal for a large plasma television. So don't be alarmed.Fourthly, the anti-glare coating Samsung uses in this set is outstanding. I have very little to no glare at all from my lamps/windows. I'm very pleased with this.Fifthly, the sound from the set sucks. Don't buy this and run sound through them. You're movie/viewing experience will suffer greatly. Get a decent surround setup, with a good subwoofer and you'll be very pleased with you're overall experience.Lastly, like all high end sets, this tv is at the mercy of the quality of the signal being fed. Give it a high res source, and you'll be floored by the quality of picture. Blacks are very black and 1080P through Blue-Ray is untouchable.Overall, fantastic value. Excellent features, near perfect picture.
