2It's edge-lit not back-lit so be careful
By Trey Smith
I bought this TV expecting a back-lit LED display and instead got an edge-lit. This means that the edges of the screen are overly bright and wash out the image on the sides and top and bottom with no way to fix it. I would not have bought this TV if I had known it was edge-lit since the product description doesn't specify and I think it should. Other than that the picture quality is gorgeous. Do yourself a favor and get something comparable in back-lit LED or LCD. Edge-lit's only benefit is a thinner TV but the trade off is brightness bleeding through onto the image.

5WOW!
By Robert Wells
I didn't buy this set from here, but I feel that a review would be in order. I'm really amazed. Out of the box this set only needed a Brightness adjustment. The blacks are, well....BLACK!, and the whites are...WHITE! Great sound. Loads of inputs and I'm using them all on mine. Set-up for the PC monitor is simple and fast. It replaced a POS Haier. What a difference. It rivals my 42" Sony Bravia for performance. This is money very well spent.

5Beautiful picture, great sound--Love it
By Ravenna Dupree
The picture simply couldn't be any sharper. The colors are fabulous, and I haven't adjusted a thing. Easy to set up. Has all the component jacks I can think of. Absolutely love it. My only complaint is there is no universal code for the remote, which is much more annoying than I thought it would be. But no way do I regret the purchase. Paid $199 and what a bargain.

5One of the best Plasma TVs but BUYER BEWARE
By Sam Spade
This is one of the best rated HI-DEF Plasma TV's!You will want to be highly suspect of any seller that has an unbelievable price and insists that you email them before purchasing. They will offer a scam escrow company to handle a transaction outside of Amazon. Amazon.com is aware of this scam but unable (unwilling) to provide any responsibility in this area, thus providing a free advertisment arena for scams.

5Great TV
By S. Ulrich
I have only had this TV for about 2 weeks. It produces an unbeliveable picture in HD almost photograpic. Like one of the other reviewers I am running Comcast HD so I came in on a DVI to HDMI converter cable. If you look on the net a little you can find the cable for about $25 (computercablestore) instead of the $120 for the Monster cable. The audio on this TV is also one of the best I have heard. Almost sounds as if they have put in a subwoofer, the bass is very deep for a TV. Standard TV also looks better than a regular set. If your looking for a great high-def set this is it.

5BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
By Buyer beware!!!
Watch out for those new or used plasma TV being advertised for less than $1500.00. Those sellers have a rating of "just launched" it seems that the same person or group of person used several different email address and they ask you to contact them first. Be very careful, all they need is to have you wire the money to them, you won't be covered by Amazon if you do that.

5Made the leap to HDTV
By PaxMan
After several years of watching our old Sony 27" TV deteriorate, we decided take a risk and spend what seemed like an outrageous sum to buy this TV. It was definitely the way to go -- great value for the money and it is cool that we are ready whenever the cable/braodcast world goes HD. The color is brilliant, features are extensive (a little confusing at first) -- sound is good even when not using our 5.1 DTS. There is a very explicit warning about "burn-in" from channel logos, tickers, freeze-frame images, etc. but I think (hope) this is easily managed by avoiding such images and adjusting picture size. Also be aware that the picture-in -picture (PIP) is limited in the sense that the TV itself has only one tuner -- but a second source and tuner (like a VCR) should work. We have enjoyed many favorite movies and some new ones too since getting this TV three weeks ago. You will see detail you didn't know existed and discover that those beautiful movie stars actually have complexion problems like the rest of us. We used "The Wizard of Oz" as the benchmark to evaluate this TV, because is is so familiar -- and the richness of this 66-year old classic is nothing short of astounding. Also -- unlike another reviewer reported, our picture needed no adjustment, and the settings you can adjust we did not find difficult to use. A negative: when the delivery folks arrived they did not set up the TV, as promised in the Amazon description. This was the most unnerving aspect of the whole transaction but everything turned out fine. If you love movies this is a terrific TV.

5Great TV at a Great Price
By M. Douglas
My wife and I were looking for a large TV to occupy some serious wall space and were directed by friends to look at DLP for the "long term" benefit. After being warned by several about the dangers of plasma burn-in, and the gaudiness of the old-school rear projection TV, we did some independent research and a lot of store viewings.1. DLP is crummy from any angle other than directly in front. The bulbs range in time from several hundred hours to a couple thousand - which means that during that crucial playoff game, you're back to your old school 25inch CRT, relegated to the guest bedroom tv. That's the real reason you kept her around.2. Rear Projection is pretty much the same, albeit cheaper for the same quality, and should come with a pre-installed Magnum PI and Knight Rider video show because this is the TV of the 80s.3. This newest generation of plasma TVs is less likely to burn-in than my old CRT, and have the means to correct the burn-in if images start to appear at any time. Which means permanent plasma burn-in is BS unless you are an airport, school, or other public information conveyor that never checks their equipment. I checked and we apparently aren't, so we looked closer at the plasma option. Bottom line: Plasma looks brighter, better for longer than any other TV out there. When I'm standing 70 degrees to the side, I can still see the whole picture - when I push the on button, I don't have to wait and pray that the lamps will heat up without popping. And in spite of my love for old school tv shows that will probably never make it to HD, the plasma looks great for anything on it's gloriously sleek screen - standard or hi-def.Samsung has a winner here - the TV was cheaper than I could buy on a military base without tax, and it was delivered quickly and took almost no time to set up. There are plenty of connection options, and the menu options for setup are so simple, I can actually understand them. The TV was 90 lbs - so it isn't flimsy in any way - and the design is pleasant, not overstated, and nowhere near as instrusive as a rear projection box. We've already put about 150 hours on the tv, and no problems (other than the addictive quality of playoff games in HD - you can see the texture of the grass, the game ball, and the announcer's toupee - it really is amazing).A word of caution: In spite of the low price, this is definetly an enviable Keeping up with the Jones item. Be prepared to sever friendships and test loyalties after purchasing this tv - it makes you look rich without having sold children or body parts to get one. Thank goodness Amazon sells "Bourgeois for Dummies".

5The right one!
By K. Montierth
While researching HDTV I leaned that Samsung is IT. This HDTV is all that I was hoping for. Take your favorite movie off the self, get 40 minutes into it you will know why you spent the money to have this HDTV. I also got the Samsung DVD HD950 as a companion DVD player. My Xbox looks great on this TV ,I guess the bottom line for me is I have never seen anyone have a HDTV set up that compares to this. Eagle shipping dropped the ball and I had to go and pick up my HDTV from the distribution center. What a rip off I paid $200.00 for me to my own shipping, anyway The TV is great , the price is wonderful, the pictures are clean and bright, but buyer beware of Eagle shipping. :::::::Update Amazon.com customer service department fixed shipping problem and satisfied me with their solution::: very happy!!!!!Lang

5Excellent HD LCD TV for the price.
By C. Brown
After researching for 3 weeks, I was set on a Sharp TV. Sony was too expensive for my price range, and while I read a lot of good things about Samsung, this TV's features for the price sold me. After having it for a little while now, this is how I would rate it.Price - Excellent. 4.5/5 Sharp was the cheapest prices between the top 3-4 brands I looked at that had a familiar name and plenty of reviews. I did examine other brands with lower prices on 1080p TVs, but I couldn't really obtain enough informational reviews or enough good ones to justify purchasing any of them just for the lower price.Picture - Excellent. 4.25/5. I'll be honest, I was a little worried when purchasing a Sharp TV. First of all, I saw it's previous model (the D62U) at a Best Buy and a Circuit City and was not totally impressed with the picture, but I had heard that sometimes bad feeds or other issues can make a store-display not as attractive. However, my real concern was if my TV would have the infamous "banding" that seemed to plague some of Sharp's earlier models. You can easily find out what banding is by searching something like "Sharp banding issues". I won't go into specifics myself about that. Anyway, I had read this model of TV -can- have banding, but that it is not near as common nor as significant in earlier models. My TV has no noticeable banding issues at all, and I'm not going to go out of my way to nitpick and search for any small issues that may be there as I can't see them now.As for the picture itself, it is great. Much better than the store displays for the earlier model that had me worry. Obviously, out-of-box settings aren't the best. At first I tried to change picture modes (of which there are several) to a User setting and tweak it using recommendations from some tech forums. This became tedious as people posted different specs and none were really quite looking right for me. So I gave up on that and just tried them on the default settings for what I was doing. I set my HDMI PS3 input to Gaming picture and it looks great. I see no reason to change it beyond that, it looks exactly as I was hoping for. Same with the Movie setting as well for my DVD input. No dead pixels and a crisp clear picture with good contrast black levels and brightness make it a great choice.Plenty of options available for picture adjustment as well.Features - Very Good. 4/5 Plenty of inputs. You can read the specs in the item description. My only reason for docking it a point is because the 3rd HDMI and 2nd Component are located on the side and stick out when plugged in. I can understand this could be an eyesore for those wall-mounting it or just not wanting to see them sticking out. I am not using that 3rd HDMI port (yet), but I do have 2 component items hooked up and the cords sticking out the side and noticeable from looking at the TV straight-on plus the location of my TV itself does make it a tad annoying, but I am getting used to it and it's not really bothering me as much as it might others.Overall - Excellent. 4.75/5 (note, the overall is not meant to be an average of the other scores). Overall, it's definately a great buy. There is more that I could say and some things I have probably forgotten about that I wanted to say, but that's ok. I don't want to make this too awful long a review. So, yeah, basically my experience with this TV is amazingly good and I would easily recommend this TV to anyone who asked me. It's price, features, and picture easily won me over.

5In the interest of balance
By Zampano
I am writing this because I have seen some reviews trashing Sharp's customer service, and I felt the need to share my own experience to even things out.I had originally ordered the LC-42D62U (not from Amazon - sorry!), but discovered some minor 'banding' issues with the set when I hooked it up. Overall, the picture was outstanding, but in dark or deep shadow areas slight variations in tone were evident as horizontal bands. If I'd only spent a couple hundred dollars on the set, I might have just let it go, but for over $1500, this wasn't acceptable. I was initially nervous because, although most customer reviews for Sharp's LCDs were positive, some of the negative ones were accompanied by customer service horror stories. So, with some trepidation, I called Sharp. It was a Wednesday afternoon. The representative I spoke to was courteous and friendly, and asked if I could take a digital photo of the problem and e-mail it to Sharp. That was reasonable to me, so I agreed. I didn't get a chance to send the pics until Friday around noon, from my office. By the time I got home from work I had received a reply thanking me for the pics and promising a prompt reply. By the time I woke up on Saturday, I had received another e-mail saying they had reviewed the pics, would exchange the set, and would contact me to make arrangements. Monday morning I got a call at my office from another courteous rep telling me that my new set would arrive in 7-10 days, and the trucking company would pick up the old set when they dropped off the new - AND that since the D62 line was no longer in production, they would be sending me one of their brand new (thinner, lighter, more feature-laden) D64's.The exchange went off without a hitch, and the new set looks absolutely fantastic. Like all LCDs, some fine tuning was definitely required, as the out-of-box settings are overly bright and saturated (to make them pop on showroom floors), but once the set is properly tuned it looks amazing. Blu-ray is awesome!!So, the product is a definite winner, and my initial problems were handled with speed, courtesy, and professionalism. All in all, I have to say that this turned out to be the best experience I've ever had with customer service from ANY company.

5Great TV
By ACA
After many hours of research I came to the conclusion that this TV would be the right one for me. I needed an LCD because the room that I have set it up in is very bright during the day and is in direct sunlight and LCD was the right choice. I have set it with PS3 as my DVD/Blue ray player using HDMI and the picture quality is fantastic. Overall I am extremely pleased with the build quality and picture quality of the TV. The remote control is not the best in the world but is sufficient. You will likely need a surround sound system since the speakers on TV's are not of the highest quality. I have used a Yamaha receiver coupled with Infinity speakers and this has worked great. One word of advise: If you buy from Amazon contact the seller after they have shipped the item so you can get the phone number for the shipping company so you can make sure someone is home when the TV is to be delivered. I had no problems whatesover. The TV arrived in great condition with no dead pixels. Overall I am extremely pleased with this TV and the price obtained at Amazon was great. I would highly rec. this TV to anyone.

5" Incredible Picture, Stunning 3D "

Pros:* Incredible Picture very near the quality of the high end Samsung's. Whites, Blacks,Colors are all exceptional.* Stunning, Amazing 3D - I can't even put into words how good this TV is at 3D, Other than its 100x better than I could of expected. Even when the source is 2D it does a decent job, of course this completely depends on the source. Now when the source is actually 3D, BluRay's or PS3 games, it's down right mind blowing how good and cool it is.* Beautiful Stand, if you don't hang it on the wall the stand doesn't disappoint.* Magic Remote, 1st impression was "This is not going to cut it." Pleased to say my 1st impression was wrong. It is super easy to use and very quick at navigating.* Built in Apps - Netfix, Hulu this is becoming typical in most tv's,dvd/blu ray players, dvr's etc. Wont go into great detail, but its nice to have it directly in the TV and it works great , no complaints.Cons: App store - At the moment is pretty pathetic, nothing there worth downloading. Hopefully this is something that LG improves over the next few months. I must add, the extremely popular apps are already on the TV such as Netfix,Hulu,Amazon Video,Facebook,Twitter,Pandora,Youtube,MLB.TV,Vudu,MoG,Google Maps,Picasa.Overall I am going to rate this 4* but, really I'd rate it 4.5.Loosing .5 stars for the app store.Picture quality would be 4.75 stars.3D would be 5 stars. (Actually 6!)Extremely happy with my purchase would not trade it for any other TV in it's price range.

1Twice malfunctioning, support non-existant.
By Robert
I ordered this TV (55LM8600) after years of purchasing and trusting the LG brand, as replacement for an older 47-in non-3D LG LCD TV. While the delivery and appearance are top notch, this new TV either freezes or restarts every 10-15 minutes. When I first experienced the issue I contacted LG and they tried to troubleshoot over the phone, verified it was not a network/power/signal issue and a technician was dispatched for confirmation. The technician verified the issue, but noted that he "thought" it might be the main board, and that part was on back-order. The technician then recommended that I contact Amazon to replace. Amazon replaced it without issue. However, the replacement has the exact same fault. Upon contacting LG, I am told to once again contact Amazon as they believe I need another replacement. Upon contacting Amazon, I am told that a replacement would take a month or two as they are out of stock. I then contacted LG a final time and asked for a supervisor. I once again explained my issues and was told that a technician would need to be sent to diagnose the issue and order parts, parts that may be on backorder. LG would not offer a replacement, only a repair, but the repair might not work and it would take a few months to find that out (which would be outside of my Amazon return window). I am not sure what happened to customer service at these electronics manufacturers that after two malfunctioning TVs that it is apparently too much to ask to have them send out a technician with a replacement TV. I cannot be upset at Amazon, they helped where they could, and now unfortunately are out of stock of replacements. It appears that I will not to get to try a third time and will now think twice before buying LG products again.

4Excellent TV - as long as you buy it with the right expectations
By Ramkumar Balaraman
For my needs, this was an excellent buy. I imagine I would have been equally happy with the 55LM7600, but it was not in stock at my local MicroCenter where these are selling at insanely good prices. There are of course a few things to consider before you decide to buy this TV:Will the TV be situated in a basement, Or is most of your TV viewing done in dim lighting, Or do you care more about picture quality than brightness? If yes, get a plasma. If not, move on to the next question. Will you rarely be watching 3D content? If yes, get a Samsung 2D or even 3D TV. If not, move on to the next question.Do you live in a home with lots of storage space and outlets to keep 3D glasses charged (i.e. not a cramped NY apartment), and do you expect not to have more than 6-8 people watching 3D movies at the same time? If yes, get a Samsung 3D TV. If not, move on to the next question. If you came this far after the questions, as I did, this is the right TV for you. You might also be happy with the 55LM7600.What you should be prepared for:1. Ghosting and Flash-lighting. These defects are manifest in all edge-lit LED TVs. My previous TV is a Vizio XVT3D, which was a back-lit TV. It had no flashlighting, but still had noticeable ghosting, though not as bad as this LG unit. These defects are most noticeable when watching a dark movie (think dark knight), or a movie with cinema black bars on the top and bottom. For most content, when sitting a brightly lit room, the defects are not noticeable at all. The same issue affects top of the line Samsung TVs as well.2. Poor black levels. The black levels on this TV are nowhere near the black levels on my previous Vizio TV. If you calibrate the TV for deeper black levels, brightness suffers as well. LG displays are poorer than Samsung displays in this regard. A properly calibrated Samsung TV gets both better black levels and a brighter display than the corresponding calibrated LG TV.So why would you still buy this TV:1. Very good looking. TV looks great both on and off. It has such a thin bezel that the width and height are almost the same as the 47" Vizio XVT3D that it replaced.2. In a brightly lit living room (which mine is), you will love the brightness and picture quality of this TV for most programming. Its only marginally worse than a Samsung TV having similar features. While videophiles would differ, I like the bright, vibrant colors on this TV much better than that of my backlit Vizio. Yes, blacks are not as deep and there is uneven flashlighting along the top edge, but the picture just feels so much better.3. Audio is much better than my previous TV, though this doesn't matter to me since I have an external Vizio bar and subwoofer that produce much better sound. But you could get by with just the inbuilt speakers. The only issue is that I now need separate remotes for the TV and sound control, so I ended up buying a Logitech harmony. I never liked the magic remote much anyway. It was very annoying whenever the mouse pointer turned up on screen when moving the remote by mistake, and what kind of remote doesn't have a dedicated input button?4. 3D is truly usable and excellent. A relative who swears by Samsung was blown away by the quality of 3D on this TV. The half-HD issue with passive 3D TVs is really a non-issue. Glasses are very lightweight and easy/cheap to replace. I don't have to worry about the kids breaking them. Nothing to recharge. Being an IPS display, 3D looks good even from wide angles. I recently watched Hugo in 3D, having previously seen it in 2D, and the experience is incomparable. The 3D in my previous TV was active-3D, and the heavy flickering glasses gave me a headache, and I never bothered recharging them after they ran out. I know the newer Samsung glasses are very lightweight and are rated at 70 hours per charge, but with a toddler around and never having enough outlets, its still a major entry barrier for me. I might consider active 3D again if they design TVs such that the glasses can be docked behind the TV.5. Excellent value. This unit set me back 12 benjamins at MC. A Samsung 3D TV with similar features was much more expensive at the time of this writing. Expense has never been the sole reason for me to choose a TV, but it definitely helps when the TV you choose based on features is also a great value.6. You can 'throw' youtube videos from your smartphone (Android/iPhone) to the TV. Probably useless for many, but very useful for me. All the other apps on the TV are redundant since I also have a Roku and PS3, but the youtube feature alone makes the 'smart' capability worthwhile. The only feature I really miss compared to my previous TV (Vizio XVT3D) is the ability to connect a bluetooth stereo headset. I got so used to this on the Vizio during those occasional late night gaming sessions using my PS3 while my toddler slept in the next room. I didn't realize this feature wasn't there until after I bought the TV. I just assumed since the remote was bluetooth a bluetooth headset would be supported as well. Sadly I was wrong. A little research also showed that the XVT3D was more of an outlier with such features and most modern TVs still don't have even half the features that it did 2 years ago. I do enjoy 3D gaming more now, so I guess you still really can't have everything.Overall, this was a great purchase for me. Definitely recommend, provided you have similar circumstances.

5Outstanding Picture Quality
By aophil
Pros: Excellent picture clarity, amazing colors, 120hz works exceptionally well with progressive scan (ie 720p, 1080p)Cons: Expensive, backlighting (actually, it's edge lighting on this model) is a little uneven in the corners. While watching credits at the end of a movie, you can see light and dark patches when the background is supposed to be solid black. This only occurs with really dark images and is a function of the TV being so thin.Overall: I've had the TV for several months with no problems. I'm really happy with this purchase and would make it again.

4Great TV if one can figure out how to use it.
By Able Devildog
My family and I just love this TV, particularly for watching sports. We looked at a lot of LCD and Plasmas but saw none that gave us the sense of depth this one does. It is like 3D. Moreover, our family room is also a sun room during the day but the picture is just as strong in the day time as it is when the room is dark. The viewing angle is comparatively wide. We see no appreciable drop off when it is viewed at an angle. It is large enough that my wife can view it from the adjacent kitchen with ease.Learning how to use its features and to set it up is another matter and that is the one gripe I have with the TV. Samsung only provides a four page manual which tells the owner nothing. Instead it includes a flash drive which contains a manual for its use but it took me over three weeks to realize what the flash drive was for. The manual does not show the available ports or how things are to be connected to the TV. I finally figured it out by trial and error and got the flash drive connected. Finding out how to use it however, was again a lot of trial and error. Once I was able to read the pages, it was hard to read, mostly grey on black (I hate black-you can't see where anything is on black). Figuring how to page the manual on the TV isn't easy. Samsung provides numerous steps to take but the user has to leave the Manual screen to go through the steps and unless the user writes out all the steps, it is a tiresome process to follow the steps. So I tried using the flash drive on my computer. Well the manual is in a strange format so it will not open normally. Windows searched for a driver that would allow viewing the manual and found one which I downloaded and installed The one I found that worked was from IrFanView but one must also download all the plugins before it will work. However, when I opened the Manual, it was unprintable except with a screen capture utility. That was more trouble than it was worth and it then dawned on me to go to the Samsung Support Center and see if there was a Manual that could be downloaded. Voila, the Manual was available in both PDF and Word formats but because the Manual is in three languages, it is 273 pages long. Just print the first 75 pages. What I found is that with no difficulty I could run picture shows directly from either my camera or from a card reader. They come out beautifully. If I tried to print pictures that big, they would be grainy as all get out. But the pictures show in full size on the big screen in terrific detail and color and they have depth. But I wish the USB ports were either on the side or the front where they are easily accessible. I intend to wall mount the screen but if I do I won't be able to get to the connections which are on the back. And even then it is difficult to insert USB cords because the recess is so narrow. We love this TV however, because of the lack of a printed manual and the location of the USB ports, I can only give it 4 stars.

3AMAZING.... sometimes. Love- Hate
By Andrew Carney
What's great about it: Light Weight, Looks Stunning, Great FeaturesWhat's not so great: Off angle viewing, dark scene viewing, corners glowing, backlight is not uniform"I WISH I LOVED THIS TV!After being a plasma fan for years, I gave an LED-LCD a chance. Set-up was great. Features-a-plenty! Picture quality... AMAZING!!!.... sometimes. I played 'UP' on blu-ray. It blew my mind! Full screen, and bright colors; you will not find a tv with a better image. There is a definate sweet spot for viewing. Which leads me to my first complaint.-Viewing angle: When your in the sweet spot. It looks great! When your one couch cushion over, you start to loose it. Contrast is lost, and dark images turn into a washed out blueish color. I was used to the viewing angle on my Samsung plasma, and deeply missed it after setting up the LED.- Low Light: This is a Great TV for daytime viewing. Colors stand out. At night, in a dark room? Not so much. You start to notice that the blacks are not as black as they were during the day. Also, you will notice the corners of the screen starting to light up with a bluish tinge. Extremely distracting especially when watching a movie or show with a 1.85 or 2.4 aspect ratio.-Backlight uniformity: What uniformity? In a very dark scene, you will really start to notice hot spots and cold spots when it comes to backlight. On an all black screen, it looks like black and blue camo. I even noticed Hot Spots during the olypics in very white areas. Again, distracting. This is most likely due to the side lighting as opposed to the full array lighting.OVERVIEW! When you find that sweet spot, and play somthing full screen or with a native 16X9 resolution, the picture will blow your mind. But when you stand up, walk around, watch in a dark room, or watch movies that are matted on top and bottom? You will really start to notice a dissapointing amount of distracting problems.I wish I didn't have to return it, but unfortunately I am going back to plasma."
