522 inch keeps pace!
By LadyHawke9973
I have the 22 inch version of this model line (Samsung LN-22A330) for my bedroom, and am VERY impressed. The picture quality is fantastic, and it has settings where you can fine tune the settings for individual channels.I have it on every morning for the news while I'm getting ready for work, and every night as I wind down and fall asleep (very appreciative of the person who first installed sleep timers on TVs).I like everything about this unit, including the "tools" function on the remote for the most-used items in my house (including the sleep functions). There are "fun" settings, too...where you can choose not only your energy savings level, but also what type of image you're watching...a "movie" versus reg tv....it deepens the color beautifully without actually changing the colors. The only item I find disconcerting is the sheer amount of time it takes to respond to turning the unit 'on'. Once you hit Power, just ignore it and ...................................................THEN you'll hear the tones turning it on (tones may be set at different volumes and even turned off if you poke around in the menu long enough to find it).Given time, I'll certainly get used to the amount of time it is, but for now it's bothersome as there is no other indicator that you actually hit the button correctly (the light on the power button on the tv doesn't flash at first, nothing). If I needed to replace this 22" unit for some reason, I'd buy the same model again in a heartbeat. Very pleased with Samsung's 330 line. Excellent value for the price for a bedroom tv.

4Great Value
By Dave in Connecticut
I gave it 4 stars only because something has to be absolutely spectacular for me to give it 5 stars. Pretty much anything good that has been said about the set is true. I do have to take exception with the comments that it takes a long time to turn on. I took a stopwatch to it with the following results. From the time I pressed the power button it took 2.5 seconds for the "welcome tune" and about 9 seconds to deliver a picture. I expect that most people can live with that. I have two Sony Bravia sets that take about the same amount of time to start up. Overall, it's a very good set and a solid value.

4Good bang for the Buck!
By R. Kadash
I've had this TV about a month now and am generally pleased with its performance VS price. I purchased this TV to replace a 44" 720P Rear Projection that was in my living room. This TV easily out performs that old TV. This TV is really very good when viewing HD sources. I matched a Visio Blu Ray player to use with this TV and there is amazing clarity. But, there is a noticable drop off when viewing non-HD sources like standard TV channels. Seriously, I don't think there are many 1080p sets that offer great standard definition viewing performance. Also, please note that there is an illuminated VISIO faceplate on the face of the TV that stays lit all the time. Now, using the TV in my living room this is not a problem for me, but if I had the TV in my bedroom it would drive me insane as it would probably illuminate half the bedroom! So far the only way I know to turn that light off is to unplug the tv from the power source. Please note that the remote for the VISIO TV was smaller than the remote for the VISIO Blu Ray player-that just seemed a bit odd to me. I also have difficulty menu-editing as when you are done editing they tell you to hit a button with a symbol on it that does not appear on the remote! Note sound output is pretty good-better than my 40" Sony Bravia, but I also am using a 5.1 HDMI theater sound system with it so I can pump it up even to higher levels when needed. On one BD I even had to turn the sharpness down bacause the main actor had 5 o'clock shadow that was so clear it was making me dizzy.

4A Few Quirks, but the Quality Makes Up For It.
By Canis Majoris
So how about we get right down to it?There are a few things with this set that are a little annoying:- Sometimes, for no reason at all, the set will turn off and turn back on. The set will also turn off when going through the setup menu after pressing the 'Ok i.e. Select' button. The latter does not happen everytime, but it does it do it.- This kind of goes along with the above. Startup is kind of slow at about 10 seconds. Time between channel switching is about 3 seconds, which also feels a little slow.- The stand that came with this TV will not swivel to the right (when you are facing the TV), but will turn to the left.- Setup. Took about 30 minutes for this to fully search, and program all of the analog/digital channels in my area (about 120). This is not an issue if you have satellite or a cable box.- Sometimes when I am switching channels, the sound from the channel I eventually end up on distorts greatly and sometimes does not come on at all. To fix this, I have to switch channels and then back again.****As you can see there are a few problems with this TV, and although I still do not consider them a deal breaker --only if the price of the TV is such that it is much lower than its competitors, note what you might be getting should you purchase this set. However, because of the good price and relatively moderate annoyances of the above dislikes, this is still a great set to buy. Here are the upsides:- Picture quality. It looks fantastic on HD channels, and when watching sports. This is a 120Hz TV to help with watching sports and/or video games. On this particular TV the latter setting is called "Smooth Control". I left the smooth motion on high when watching basketball and football names, which greatly reduced blurring so that it was not really noticeable at all. Moreover, there are three different settings to adjust the smooth control : Low, Medium, and High. I did not notice any difference between them. Yes you can adjust this setting to stay completely off, leaving your movies in their normal framerate (24fps) instead of the "soap opera effect", which looks like 30fps. The setting is located under Menu----TV----More.- Sound. Speakers on these TVs will never compare to aftermarket speaker systems, but I must say that the wait until you do purchase that system will not be terrible one. The audio, especially in surround sound, does very well at filling a room with a robust volume and with a variety of different sounds/instruments.- Automatic picture adjust. Automatically adjusts levels of brightness/backlight to accommodate ambient light.Comparing to TVs of all brands, this one is a must buy in the area of LCDs of the same picture size if it is 100-200$ less than its competitors.

4Amazing HDTV, but with a few very minor glitches
By Denny S.
As of late 2010, I don't think there's a better 47" 120Hz HDTV anywhere for $679. (The comparable Samsung 46" model cost between $120 to $220 more, depending on whether you purchase the Samsung LN46C630 or the Samsung LN46C600.)About the picture: I have carefully compared the Vizio E470VA picture to the two Samsung models above and can attest that the picture of the Vizio is almost equal while watching HD programming. When the Vizio is hooked up to DISH Network, HD programming such as ESPN and other HD cable channels is absolutely stunning. However, on NON-HD channels and shows, the picture is hit-or-miss, based on the production value of the original program. Some NON-HD programs look clear, but others look grainy. Either way, that's not Vizio's problem as I see it.Next, the SmoothMotion feature looks amazing on sports and on some movies and shows, but on other programs it makes the picture have that "soap opera set" quality. So, you may want to use the SmoothMotion feature on some programs but then turn it off for others, based on your own taste. (It's easy to switch on and off using the remote.) Some people may desire to leave the feature turned off, which is fine too. I've read that LG and Samsung users often turn the comparable feature off. It's a matter of personal taste.About the sound: The SRS TrueSurround HD and SRS TruVolume features are great. Sometimes I felt like the surround sound was shaking the room it was so crisp and powerful. I was deeply impressed with the built-in speakers, and I see no reason to purchase an additional sound bar. However, with the special sound settings turned on, the volume can unpredictably rise sharply *depending on the recorded sound quality of the program being viewed.* So, much like the SmoothMotion feature mentioned earlier, you have to be prepared to turn the SRS TruVolume feature off if you get volume inconsistency while watching some shows or channels not created according to new HD standards. I keep the special sound features turned on most of the time, and I occasionally I have to turn off the SRS TruVolume when I get an inconsistent rise or fall in volume. I don't see this as a knock against Vizio, but perhaps the company can figure out how to control that better in the future.About a couple rare glitches: One glitch is that the remote "menu/ok" button (which you use often to adjust settings) will every now and again turn off the TV. I read that this has happened to another Vizio 47" user, so I think it's a manufacturing glitch. It has not happened to me often, but I did have it happen a couple times when I was using the remote a lot. Oh, well. No TV is perfect.Another glitch I saw once or twice had to do with the sound getting out of sync with the speaker's lips. I do not know if this happened because of DISH Network's pause feature, but it may have been caused by the feed/connection coming from DISH. It has not happened in DISH's live viewing mode, so I'm wondering if it is a DVR-pause issue from my Dish hookup. The issue tends to resolve itself within a minute, or I can change the channel and change it back and the issue is resolved. Finally, this E470VA is one of the attractive looking Vizio models. The casing design is sharp and sleek, unlike some of the "ugly" Vizio models, such as the similar E470VL.For $679, I just don't see a better 47" out there. The price/quality ratio can't be beat by Samsung or LG.

5Excellent choice for small rooms
By A. Bryant
Purchased this at a great price for my mother, and the TV has been perfect. Picture quality is high, particularly for a screen of this size. Predictably, the sound is a bit weak (you can easily amend this by hooking up speakers via the headphone jack, however). Philips is a solid brand - it's always worth it to pursue a reputable product - and the aesthetics of the TV are great; the design and build quality are fantastic. If you're searching for a nice HDTV for a bedroom or small room, this is among the best options.

5Works Great So Far!
By Lance
I have had this tv for about a week. I bought it for a home exercise room. Set up was easy. Even if you use basic cable it should pull in the HD channels. I know that Time Warner does. The only issue that I ran into is connecting my Roku box to it. You have to go through the second HDMI input and not the first. If you go through the second, the HDMI cable will carry the audio and video signals to the tv. I connected a DVD player and video player to it easily. I also suggest that if you have a spare set of computer speakers that you connect them through the headphone jack. The only issue is the tiny light at the botton which as one reviewer noted is extremely bright. I guess I will either get used to it or tape it over. Otherwise this was a great buy and an excellent choice for a small room or a children's bedroom.

4Perfect for the kids' room
By Mike IGC
Great TV. Lightweight, easy to assemble the base, and hooked it up very quickly. I'm not using a cable box, so I had to autoprogram the channels. The picture looks great. Extremely busy patterns appear to move and turn grainy even on an HD channel, but I've only seen that happen once. Both HD and SD channels look fine - no complaints.Great feature: Channel list/skip. Many of the channels are duplicates or they're in languages that we don't speak. While in the channel skip menu, you can preview each channel as you run down the list. My 32" TV from another brand doesn't have this feature.Sound: I continue to adjust the equalizer to try to get it to sound "normal". It's not that bad once you lower the 2nd of the 5 EQ bands and fiddle around with the others.Since I'm running the cable directly in and have strange and out-of-order channels like 52.9, 66.20, 71.707, 74.641, 102.248, etc., I would have liked a "Favorite channel" feature or at least a manual channel labeler. The remote is logically laid out and feels solid.Overall, I really do like the TV and have already recommended it to others.

5OH MY GOD AMAZING TELEVISION
By M. Moskowitz
This television is truly something to be admired. I'd say it's also a work of art.I have a high definition cable box with an HDMI cable to the TV and the HD channels are superb. I mean, the picture is totally 100% crystal clear. I have windows behind me and somehow there is virtually no glare. Yes, the TV looks better when it is dark outside versus light outside but it's perfectly great when it is light outside.I'm writing this review on my couch. My laptop is connected to the TV via a VGA cable with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately my laptop does not have HDMI but I can see very well with the VGA cable. Needless to say, I am going to become much more lazy as a result of this TV.The 40 inches is great for my viewing pleasure. I'm sure 46 is bigger but I am 100% content with 40 inches. It comes down to price. I did not want to pay more than $1,200 for a TV (that's $100 a month for 12 months using the Amazon Store Card). So this was a no-brainer for me.If you are in the market for a TV, I highly suggest this one. It is truly a wonderful TV.The "only" thing that isn't 100% perfect is the sound. The sound is good mind you, but it is not as perfect as the picture. But for the record, I have not played with the equalizer which people report helps the sound. This is an amazing TV.UPDATE 6/12/2008: This is still a remarkable television. I don't have any complaints about it at all. Even the sound is perfectly fine. However, you MUST either have a Blu Ray player or an Upconvert player with an HDMI cable to get the full benefit. Everything looks and sounds perfect on this TV.UPDATE 7/13/2008: The TV is still perfect so just buy it already! I actually bought a 26" 3-series for my bedroom. I don't notice too much of a difference; I am happy with this "worse" TV as I am with my living room TV (this one). Samsung makes an excellent LCD television!FINAL UPDATE 3/19/2009: Well I've had this TV about a year and I can honestly say it still is great. The sound is great, too. But... in retrospect, when it comes to TVs, bigger is better. A year ago this TV was $1,200 and I just paid it off this month. But if I could have gotten a 42" or a 46", then that would be better. Don't get me wrong, the 40" is great, but what's wrong with a few extra inches? Either way you can't go wrong with the LCD 5 Series from Samsung.

5Beautiful Picture - Great Service
By Rob. B
One of my biggest purchases with Amazon and it went as smooth as possible. The picture on this TV is amazing. FiOS HD can be almost too much pretty on one screen with this TV, it's a bit overwhelming at first. Standard def channels are of course a less clear but better than expected. The only issue I have with this TV is the length of time to power on and off. You also have to point the remote just right sometimes or the function won't register. Small issue though, hardly worth docking points off this unit. The menu is wonderful and gives complete control over settings. Each input saves your settings too! The AVS Forums have a great thread concerning settings for each input that should be checked out and tested. A little tweaking got the black levels and skin tone just right.I haven't tested the VGA input, but my Macbook Pro connected with a DVI-HDMI cable is amazing! My FiOS is connected via HDMI and as I mentioned, quite beautiful. I also have a Wii hooked up via component. The Wii maxes out at 480p but really shines on this TV despite the 1080p native res. Don't be fooled though, the picture is a little fuzzy but through some tweaking you can get a great picture without springing for a separate upconverter.Shipping was of course through Eagle/CEVA. Make sure to call and verify they've got your info. They didn't have my phone number on record at first so I corrected that. My delivery man was Rick. He was great! He called to setup the appointment, was on time, very delicate with the unit, and very personable. I couldn't be more pleased.UPDATE: Just wanted to mention the finish of the screen. Originally, I was debating between this model and the older lnt4069fx due to the matte screen. I chose this model for several reasons. First, it was cheaper. Second, I decided 120Hz wasn't worth the extra 400 bucks. Third, the screen isn't glossy but it isn't matte it's more of an in-between, satin-like finish that works great in my TV watching room that has a glass front door to the outside and 2 windows. Glare isn't a problem at all for me even with lamps behind me. It really is great. The ultra gloss on the 600 and 700 models are way to much for my multipurpose room. Hope that helps anyone on the fence that cares about gloss vs. matte finishes.

2Caution: Known HDMI issue
By J. R. Wechezak
I purchased the Samsung LN40A550 40" 1080p LCD HDTV on July 14, 2008. It's my 4th big screen HDTV purchase but my first 1080p box. Agree with other reviews in that it has an absolute beautiful picture at a very good price. There are many features I love about this TV, but here's the problem....I purchased a Samsung 1080P8 upconverting DVD player with an HDMI (version 1.3) cable. When i watch a DVD, i get a 'searching for signal' message that appears on the screen for about 5 seconds. This happens once every minute or two! I went into full troubleshooting mode by replacing the cable, the DVD player, and everything else i could think of. I tried the DVD player and HDMI cable with my other HDTV sets and it worked great. After calling Samsung technical support and getting to their level 2 support in New Jersey, they acknowledged there is a problem with the HDMI connection with the TV but they do not have a firmware fix for it yet. They suggested i wait for the firmware fix (release date unknown), or return the TV and try another one. I opted to exchange the TV for the same model. I received it today and (unfortunately) it has the same problem. I will now return the TV to Amazon, get a refund, and purchase a different model.Bottom line, if you don't use or need the HDMI connection, you should be fine with this set. However, if you plan to use HDMI I'd look to a different model until this is fixed.Update on July 28 - After further troubleshooting, the HDMI problem is with the combination of using a Samsung LN40A550 40" 1080p LCD HDTV with the Samsung 1080P8 upconverting DVD player. Together, they do not work. Separately, the upconverting DVD player works perfectly with other TVs, and the Samsung LN40A550 works fine with another upconverting DVD. I purchased the same brand so i would eliminate this exact problem! Who would think that Samsung has not tested their own product compatibility before they go out the door? Exremely poor quality control - my guess is they have a problem with their 'anynet' software feature, but it still blanks-out with 'anynet' turned off. Purchase the Sony upconverting DVD player with this TV and you'll be OK. However, now I personally don't trust Samsung.

5Excellent Monitor/HDTV combo

I wanted a monitor with HDTV turner for occasional TV viewing. I narrowed my choice to the Samsung T24A350 and FX2490HD. I think both are very similar in term of specs. I like the FX2490HD's stand, but the T24A350 is newer and has black color which I prefer. So I went for the T24A350. The reason I chose 24" screen is that max resolution for TV is 1080p. If I get a bigger one, the pixel density decreases and I think it would not look sharp when using in monitor mode.1. As an HDTV, it is amazing. It automatically scans for cable/antenna channels and removed scrambled ones. Picture is sharp, color is vivid on HD channel (720p or 1080i). I don't usually watch TV much but I have to admit I will spend more time because of the improvement in HD quality. I mainly use this as an external monitor for my Macbook Pro. So I take advantage of the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) feature to have a small TV window overlaid on the bottom right corner. I can select the size and position of this TV window. However, Samsung limits the choice to 2 sizes and 4 positions (at four corner). You can select the sound source when in PIP mode, i.e., you can output the sound from the HDMI source (it is my Macbook Pro in my case) or from the TV channel. To do this, in the PIP menu, go to Sound Select, choose Sub to get the sound from the TV turner, choose Main to get the sound from whatever source is main (from HDMI in my case). Oh, FYI, I bought a $7 Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter for my Macbook Pro (Mid 2011). I works wonderful both picture and sound.2. As a monitor, it is very good. For this 24" size, I would want a higher resolution than 1080p but the picture looks very sharp on this monitor. As mentioned by many reviewers, you have to edit the HDMI connection's name to get better picture. To do this, first connect your computer to a HDMI port, press Source on the remote --> select HDMI --> press Tools on the remote --> Edit Name --> Select PC. For me, I also changed the Color Tone to Warm2 to get the tone I like.I had this experience that I want to share in case someone gets the same issue. I always connect my laptop to the HDMI1 port (naturally) and get pleasant result. One day, I decided to connect my desktop to the HDMI2 port just out of curiosity. I was mad when the picture appeared worse than the one from HDMI1. I did change the source name to PC, I tried to change the settings on my desktop and tried to connect my laptop to this HDMI2 port. All got the same crap picture quality. I was about to return this monitor/TV (and leave bad review, hmm). But then I discovered that the picture settings for HDMI1 and HDMI2 are independent. In my case, the Sharpness for HDMI2 was 100 (max) while he HDMI1's was 50. When the sharpness is this high, no doubt the picture looks grainy. It's just like you increase a photo's sharpness in Photoshop. I decreased the Sharpness and change some other settings to be the same as HDMI1 and the result was excellent. Now I got both HDMI ports working as desired. I wish Samsung presets the right settings for this monitor so that people who buy it don't need to make sophisticated changes just to make it work. The package comes with:1. Monitor2. Stand3. Power cord4. Remote control5. Two AAA batteries for the remote6. VGA cable7. 2.5mm & 3.5mm male to RCA audio cable (I don't use this)8. A clip to organize cables9. Assembly instruction bookletsNo paper-based manual. The e-manual is built in the monitor and can be accessed by pressing the E-MANUAL button on the remote. No HDMI cable, so you may want to order some before this monitor arrives. I bought 99-cent ones and very happy.I recommend this monitor/HDTV combo.

3Excellent HDTV, but don't expect an excellent monitor.
By Kevin
I gave this monitor/HDTV combination a go because it seemed to have everything I wanted. In addition to having a screen resolution suitable for computer use (1680x1050), it also had a good array of A/V hookups (2x HDMI, component, RCA, digital audio), good speakers, an over-the-air TV tuner, and a (near-perfect) TV remote. It seemed to be the perfect monitor for a mixed use environment, like a kitchen or a bedroom. Neat! However, I was severely disappointed by this panel because I hadn't done my homework. It turns out that Samsung uses a Twisted Nematic (TN) display technology for almost all of its consumer displays (computer monitors included!), and this unit was no exception. The trade-off with TN panels is that color and contrast shift significantly in the vertical direction, even if you keep your head still. For instance, if you are viewing a photograph, the image will be darker when positioned near the top of the monitor, and lighter when positioned near the bottom of the monitor. It's a drastic enough change that it just becomes more and more irritating over time. I expect more color and contrast consistency out of a 24" display that costs $300+.Samsung tries to compensate for the color/contrast shift with a menu option called "MagicAngle", but that doesn't cure the problem. It just makes the monitor look less washed-out when viewed from a standing or seated position. The fact is, colors and contrast will vary at different points on the screen no matter what angle you adjust the monitor to.TN isn't necessarily a bad technology -- in fact, it's a pretty good choice for an HDTV. The TV was quick enough to keep up with fast-moving scenes and look quite good from several feet away. Colors looked pretty good from a distance as well. If you just plan to use this as an HDTV, I don't think you'd be disappointed at all. I loved every single HDTV function this had. Samsung makes great TVs, full stop. But this also claims to be a decent monitor. So I returned it and replaced it with an IPS monitor. IPS panels do not suffer from the color and contrast shifting problems TN displays have (try comparing them next time you visit an electronics store). PVA monitors are also quite good.If you're interested, Dell (under the UltraSharp brand), ViewSonic and LG all sell excellent monitors with IPS panels (there are other manufacturers too, just search for "IPS monitor" or "PVA monitor" in the Electronics department and be sure to check the product description). I think Samsung has some PVA monitors, but they're not as up-front about the display technology in their spec sheets. In summary, there's a lesson to be learned here. When judging a panel's image quality, ignore claims from the manufacturer and reviewers about "vibrant color" and "deep blacks" without understanding the underlying panel technology first. Subjective attributes don't make up for the fact that, when used as a computer monitor, TN-based panels are a poor substitute for IPS, PVA, and other higher-end display technologies. Most people spend hours in front of a computer monitor every day. It's worth a little extra money to make sure what you're looking at looks good to *you*.

5Great Product.
By HHT
Using this with MacBook Pro (via mini display port to HDMI) and Hdtv antenna.Pros:-looks great-easy assembly-has picture-in-picture (PC on big screen w/tv in the smaller screen.)-Can switch from PC to Tv with one button.-sound is decent for a small bedroom. No need for external speakers.-E-manual for quick reference.Con:-Picture need to be adjusted for TV and PC.(When connected to PC via HDMI need to rename HDMI source to PC. Source > HDMI 1 > Press Tool button.)-Not as thin as the new LED TVs, but is still doesn't take up a lot of space.Overall, I'm happy to have bought this when it was on sale.

5Sony 55" EX-710: An Excellent Affordable LED/LCD TV
By Tomitoon
I spent hours researching and comparing "LED" LCD TV's in the 55" size category. I finally narrowed it down to two "edge-lit" LED TV's (the Sony Bravia 55" EX710 and the Samsung 55" LED 6300 series) based on price/performance, overall image quality, image contrast, refreshing rates (for sports), ease of use and customer service.I've owned both Sony and Samsung in the past and was satisfied in general with their performance and customer service so I felt comfortable with either TV from a reliability and customer service perspective. In terms of image, watching the TV's side by side for well over 10 hours, I can say I could not distinguish between the two TV's. The shape of the Sony is a bit different (slightly taller and narrower) than the Samsung, giving you the impression that the Samsung is bigger, but it's not. Both the Sony and Samsung TV's provide excellent color resolution and contrast, deep dark colors and vibrant lighter colors as well.I did find the Samsung 6300 series tv image on "non-HD" tv programs to be slightly better than the Sony, but the difference was marginal. As for sports, both have 120hz. and relatively fast refreshing rates, so sports viewing on either TV is excellent. For ease of use and set up, I found the Sony 55" to be very good. Sony provides the user manual as an item on the TV menu instead of a written one, which may not be to everyone's liking. But then again, with it installed on the TV, you're never wondering "where the heck did I put that user manual!"In the end, given the overall similarity in quality and performance between the Sony 55"EX710 and the Samsung 6300 series LED/LCD TV's, I boiled it down to price and that's where the Sony won out! I paid $1499 for the Sony while the best price I could find for the Samsung was $1750. I put the price savings towards a 5 year extended warranty for the Sony!

3Samsung C6400/C6300 vs Samsung C6900/C6800 vs Bravia EX710/EX711
By Matt P
I spent weeks researching and testing various LCD/LED flat screens. In the end I purchased the Samsung 55 inch C6400. The C6400 model is the same screen as the C6300 model except the C6400 has Samsung's built-in internet apps whereas the C6300 does not. In the process, I purchased two Samsungs (C6400 and C6900) and one Sony Bravia (EX711). Here is what I learned: * All of the review websites "calibrate" their screens before performing a review. During calibration the screen's default settings are changed to supposedly make them more accurate. Nifty features that are built into the screen like "Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio" are frequently disabled during calibration because they can affect the accuracy of the image. In my opinion, if a nifty feature in your television can make it appear brighter or more colorful, go for it. Color accuracy is overrated. What matters is whether *you* like the picture or not. * Edge-lit screens like the Samsungs and Bravia I reviewed are thinner, lighter, and more eco-friendly than the full-array screens. In theory full-array screens give better contrast ratios, and require less picture manipulation to achieve said contrast ratios. To my untrained eyes, it's hard to see a difference. * Dynamic edge-lit on the C6900 sounds like a good idea, but in my testing it created some weird affects that my wife, in particular, didn't care for where some parts of a dark image were pitch black and other parts of the same dark image were a brighter black, giving the appearance that someone turned on a spotlight down part of the screen. * The blacks were darker on the C6400 than the C6900. Go figure. * Edge-lit screens tend to hide the speakers on the back of the set. This produces a "reflected" sound that is decent, but not the best. We planned to purchase a theater system with our television so this didn't really matter to us. * The Samsungs and Bravia screens came with a swivel stand. This was important for our living room set up. * None of the Samsungs supported HDMI Auto Return Channel. Without ARC I have to power on the screen *and* the theater system to watch video from external devices like a blue ray player or game console. Not a big deal but it occasionally frustrates. The Bravia fully supported HDMI Audio Return Channel. * When using motion blur reduction, the Samsungs have A/V sync issues in combination with our theater system. I have addressed this by increasing the audio delay in our theater system. It's not exactly perfect but it gets lip sync close enough that no one (except myself of course) ever notices it. * All of the Samsung screens exhibited corner lighting and flashlighting to some degree. Each Samsung screen was slightly different. To see this, put the screen in Movie mode and view a uniform dark image in a pitch black room. You should see that the screen is slightly brighter in the corners and certain areas of the screen are also brighter (flashlighting). At first this really bothered me, but then I got used to it. There's simply no way you're going to notice this where it matters most: where the movie picture is playing. You'll only ever see it in a darkened room between scenes and around the edges where the movie isn't playing. * Amazingly the Bravia didn't have *any* corner lighting or flashlighting. I don't know how Sony pulled that off, but I was impressed. Samsung should license Sony's edge lighting technology. * The Samsungs all have a reflective screen which produces a really sharp and bright image that seems to pop off the screen. The Bravia uses a matte screen. I was baffled to observe that the Samsungs all handled reflections much better than the Bravia. There is a window directly behind our viewing sofa. With the Samsungs you were hard pressed to even see a reflection at all during daytime viewing. With the Bravia, the television was almost unwatchable during daylight hours. Reflections caused a blooming halo affect that was really dramatic. Score one for Samsung's "Ultra Clear Panel" technology. * All the Samsungs handled SD content really well. SD content on the Bravia looked bad in comparison. * The Bravia screen frequently exhibited really noisy colors, particularly with skin tones. This was much less of an issue with 1080p content, but was really annoying at times. The Samsungs never had this problem. * The Samsungs use a remote control that is relatively simple and is backlit. My wife and kids had no issues picking it up and using it right away. The Bravia remote control was significantly more complicated and was not backlit. * All the Samsungs employ mediocre motion blur reduction. Motion blur reduction helps minimize the stuttering affect during movement - especially panning shots. The problem is that unless it is set to Off or Clear, the Samsungs occasionally stuttered. In practice this isn't a problem as I actually prefer the Clear setting, but sometimes I want to dial this setting up for animated feature films (Cars, Toy Story, etc.) and it often doesn't work out well. * The Bravia had kick-but motion blur reduction. I was really impressed. Everything was smooth and fluid. This may have been in part due to Sony's "True Cinema" technology. * When I originally started out, I really wanted our new television to provide Netflix playback and DLNA media streaming. Despite what is advertised, Samsung's Netflix and DLNA support is poor. On both Samsungs, Netflix was constantly switching bitrates (about once a minute) and each time the picture disappear to black for about a quarter of a second. Audio was unaffected. I repeatedly took the exact same network cable and plugged it into other devices (PS3, Roku, Laptop) and Netflix playback was flawless HD. Samsung reportedly insists the problem is the user's internet service. * None of the Samsungs or the Bravia I tested would connect to my DLNA server. I have approximately five streaming devices (Logitech music box, No-name streaming box, iPad, PS3, etc.) spread throughout my home and none have had any issue connecting to my DLNA server. * The Bravia did have better Netflix support, however overall bitrate was still less than other devices (PS3, Roku, Laptop). A few video stalls (buffering) were experienced on the Bravia. * In my opinion, the C6400 isn't worth the extra cost over the C6300. In my case I got a super deal on the C6400 so it wasn't an issue. Perhaps in another few years, these issues will get ironed out.

5Great TV - Nothing to complain about
By netrabbit
I bought this TV online during black friday for 1500$ delivered. Right out of the box the TV was simply amazing. I did not have to change any color, brightness, contrast settings. It chooses the right picture mode based on the content. Some people have complained about the sound, but I found it to be sufficient for my room (15 feet by 30 feet). I like the fact that the stand provides about 20 degree movement on each side. Before this I bought a Vizio and the picture quality on that was horrible (I obviously returned it). This is one of the best TV out there if you are not looking for 3D.Some of the things that I found not that great:* The factory setting for the screen size cuts about 3-5% of the picture from all sides on HDMI input including computer, XBOX, DVD, Dish HD Receiver. It took me some time to realize that I was missing some of the picture. You need to set "Screen" to "full pizel" to get complete HDMI picture. I am not sure why they would set the default to setting that would cut the picture.* Netflix streaming is ok, I would rather connect computer directly. Because the in-built software only displays instant queue. You must add movie to instant queue using computre and I have also noticed a lag (sometimes hours) before the instant queue gets updated.* USB port on the TV plays photos, music and home videos. However, tt recognizes FAT32 drives only. There is also limited support of the file format. It played AVCHD straight out of the camcorder, but did not play TS files that I created by combining the AVCHD clips. Nor did it play DV AVI Type 1 or Type 2 format files. It plays the photos and music very well, no issues there. It is also DLNA server so you can stream content from home computer.Overall very happy with the picture and sound quality of the TV.

5Simply Amazing
By Winston Quezada
I just got my TV last Friday and it is everything that I have expected. Unlike the first reviewer on this site, I have not experienced the overheating issues (fingers crossed). If you read his review he did admit the TV was great until that started happening. I just hope I don't get the same issue. On to my review: I spent over a year and a half researching flat panels. I came close to purchasing a Samsung 71F series, but when the salesman told me that new 2008 models were coming out in March, I decided to hold and do more research on those models. I almost purchased the 5 series, but when I found out that it does not have 120hz refresher rate, I decided to research the 6 series and ended buying the 46A650.I briefly looked at the 7 series, but when I found out the only difference between the two was that the 7 series has a USB port for your MP3 player and 1 GB of cache, I figured it was not for me. I use a dock connected to my receiver when I play my MP3, so to me that was a useless function to fork over extra $$$ for. In addition, I have a PS3 so I don't really need the 1GB of cache to use the TV as a multimedia center. If you don't have a PS3 and plan to use your TV to view pictures and play music then the 7 series might be for you.Pros:I have the 46" and I was amazed at how light it was. I was able to pick it up by myself and put it on the stand. The red is absolutely amazing. That's the favorite thing my Fiancée likes about this TV. Personally, I like the red because it is very subtle and goes great with our family room. The first night we got it we watched the movie Ratatouille on Blu-Ray Disc. Let me tell you after watching the movie my jaw was sore because I think I spent more than 3/4ths of the movie with my jaw open from the amazing picture. The picture was so clear and concise that we paused it and we were able to even see the little freckles on the mice throughout the movie, including the separate hairs. As I said earlier I play video games with my PS3, so the 120 hz refresher rate was critical to have. MLB the Show 08 is insane. Just looking at the players faces and even the fans blew me away. My brother has a 46" inch Vizio 1080P and he recommended it to me saying that there is not much difference from the two so I am better off saving. Let me tell you, he is absolutely wrong. I've watched his Vizio and to be honest, it can't even hold the jockstrap of the 46A650 if it was a male. There is a big difference believe me. The only TV that could probably match-up to this one is the XBR Bravia with 120HZ. That would've been what I would have purchased if I had not gotten this one. Up until now, I have absolutely no regrets. The reason I researched for over a year and a half is because I wanted to get a TV that if something new came on the market a few months later, I would not regret my purchase. I feel very strongly that I will not regret this purchase down the line.I love having 4 HDMI inputs. This was very important for my purchase also, since I have separate HDMI components. The TV also has an ethernet port, so I have it plugged into the internet. I can get weather, news and stock quotes through it. I'll admit, I haven't used it much, but it's nice to know, I can check the temperature at the touch of the button. The blacks on this TV are awesome and I can have my curtain open on my huge family room window and I can see the tv clearly during the day. I love the TruSurround feature, since right now I only have two speakers and a subwoofer. This feature is meant to improve the sound quality for people who use two speaker systems. I plan to get a surround sound system eventually, but it's going to be a while. That's where this tool comes in handyThe screen is glossy, but I don't have an issue with it. I like the glossy look and besides, it is meant to make the colors more vibrant and intense. I've played with the different viewing modes, but actually, I like standard the best. The movie mode is a little too dark for me and the game one is a little too bright. Standard mode is my desired preference. The remote is oddly shaped and takes a while to get used to. It also has an ipod like scroll. Some people complain that it is an ugly remote. This is ridiculous; I'm sorry, but I did not purchase this TV for its remote. Anyway, I'm planning on upgrading to an RF Logitech remote this summer anyway.Cons:The TV is so good that on the tv stations with weak signals, you can see the weakness of the signal. On some you could see the lines and imperfections, due to having a weak signal. That is only a with a few channels. It's a negative, but that's what you get when the picture is very detailed; You will not only get the good qualities, but the bad also, if the signal is not strong. Regardless, that issue will be moot next year when the tv stations will be required to broadcast by digital signal.Another issue is, that when you turn it on it takes about 3-4 seconds to pick up my digital cable signal from my DVR box. In addition when you switch between sources it takes around the same amount of time to pick up the signal. I'm impatient, which is a negative quality of mine. In our household, it seems like it is an issue only with me, since it does not bother my fiancee at all or any of our friends. Maybe it would not be a con if I was not so stupidly impatient. Those are really the only two issues I have with the TV and to me they are very minor ones. I just pray I don't start getting the issues, the first reviewer experienced.Overall:I am very happy with my purchase. I am very satisfied and do not feel guilty or have any regrets about making this purchase. Up until now, I feel this TV is worth every penny I paid for it. I'll be updating my review as I learn more about this TV. I hope my review helped you, even if it was only a tad bit helpful, before making your investment on a flat panel television. Good luck with your search.

5About time, Or so I thought.
By J. Sparks
:: It seems the Shut off Issue has been corrected on my set!!::Prior to picking this TV up I had 2 of the 71 series televisions. Both of them had problems concerning a flicker as well as a some dim pixel clusters under the screen. I still had my last 71 under the 30 day policy so i returned it for this years new model: the 650A.The Tv itself is beautiful. The hint of red is very subdued yet adds a nice touch when you get up close. A warning about the screen, it is glossy. If your room is well lit and you get distracted by reflections, this is not for you. The benefit of the glossy screen is more vibrant colors and contrast. SO for most its worth the glare to have a beautiful picture when you close the blinds. Though in daylight I don't have a problem at all watching it, but its optimal in dark. The remote is interesting. It has an Ipod inspired turn wheel in the middle of the remote that is super touchy. It takes some getting used to but its kind of cool. The source input is now a drop down menu where you directly choose the input rather than cycling through them one by one. It also has a motion sensor in it, when activated, auto turns the light on in the remote when its moved. People complain that its an ugly remote, but seriously, its a remote. You dont stare at it like the TV's picture.Speaking of which the picture is where the tv truly shines. Vibrant colors, amazing detail, inky blacks. This is the LCD I have been waiting for. Bluray= amazing. So the TV is very similar to the 71 except 3 new modes which are called "Entertainment Modes" These are Pre-calibrated from the factory and you cannot adjust the picture at all.1. Sports mode: For high speed sports. This mode is a lot brighter than the others and is designed for faced paced imagery.2.Game: This is for games obviously. The AMP feature is toned down but the Video Processor is turned up for a smoother game play. Colors are less vibrant than sports, but just a tad.3. Cinema Mode: Intended for film and is a darker more film like picture. AMP is functioning at normal capacity. Some think this is to dark but I really think its Ideal. The best part about the Entertainment modes: No judder or stutter and TBE is fairly gone from the 71 series. These modes are amazing and should be the only modes used on the tv for smooth performance. You can read about more of the features but So far this TV has been exactly what I have been waiting for. There have been quite a few reports of random restarts, I have yet to have any. If this is a widespread problem it will be patched on the older models and will come out of the factory with the fix installed. Samsung tvs have had this problem before and it was fixed last time. I have no worries. (And it just restarted, hooray)

5Amazing picture, but surprised by some missing features
By Daniel Eskenazi
I want to say first off that I also experienced the bug where the TV unexpectedly turns itself off, but after I installed the firmware upgrade that Samsung posted on 4/5 the problem has gone away.I agree with the other reviewers that the picture is AMAZING. I am also happy to see that Samsung has added a 4th HDMI port. I was initially concerned that the "Touch Of Color" might clash with my decor, but it is very subtle especially if you mount the TV inside a cabinet. The "Infolink" feature is cute and easy to set up, but I don't see it as being extremely useful. Now for some caveats. I purchased this TV right after setting up an LNT4661F for my inlaws, and I was quite surprised to realize that the A650 is missing several features from the 4661F, despite the A650 costing $650 more. For starters, the A650 does not have a rear S-video port (only one S-vide port on the side). This is probably not a big deal for most people, but if you are using a VCR or older cable box, etc. you will have a cable plugged into the side of the TV. Also there is only one composite port on the back of the TV, plus one more on the side. If you want to switch between three composite input surveillance cams, etc. you're out of luck. More of a concern to me was that the A650 has only 1 antenna input versus 2 on the 4661F. That means with the A650 you can't plug in both an antenna and a cable input. I guess Samsung figures everyone is using a set top box so they cut corners there.By far my biggest complaint is with the Remote control. Again unlike the 4661F, the A650 does NOT have a universal remote! It's essentially a TV-only remote, although it CAN control Samsung "Anynet+" components connected via HDMI. This seems like a big step backwards and bothers me more than the other features that were removed. Also the remote is not described on the Samsung website so I had no way of knowing that the remote had been "de-improved". I agree with other reviewers that the navigation wheel is horrible ... it spins freely which makes it practically useless ... you spin the dial to make your selection, then as you move your finger to press the enter button inside the scroll wheel, the wheel moves and you select the wrong value. You have to wonder "what were they thinking?". I've seen Happy Meal toys with better tactile feedback!Despite my criticisms and annoyance that some features have been removed, I still rated this TV as 5 stars because in my book, picture quality is by far the biggest consideration and it looks great to me. Also the aesthetics are very nice and the new features such as 4th HDMI and Infolink make up for the removed features and poor remote control.
