4Not perfect, but overall very good.
By E.L.
So, I have the 65lw6500 I got from here. Delivered no problem in one week. It replaced an LG 55LH90.Here are my thoughts after a few days with it in no particular order. By the way, a little background on me....used to be REALLY into home theater, then I got married, so now I just enjoy it. I'm happy with the 80% solution. I have excellent vision and don't get motion sick or anything else like that. I do not like active shutter at all. It just irritates me, and the dimming and flickering I see when I move my head is a total deal breaker. YMMVAnyway:-it's freaking heavy. Also, it just seems huge compared to my 55". FYI, I sit about 10 feet.-2d is very good. Surprisingly even good on SD content from Dish Network and older stuff on Netflix. Completely watchable.- 3d is fantastic. Tangled is WOW! Of course, good source material makes a world of difference. Green Hornet added nothing in 3d, whereas Tangled was actually a more enjoyable movie in 3d. It was like a different film. I haven't seen any 3d issues.-there is some flash lighting from the corners. I can tell a difference in blacks from my LH90 that had full local dimming backlight. (this does NOT have local dimming, unlike the 55 and 47 model 6500 listed in the table above. It's slightly annoying to me, but my wife doesn't even notice...also, I didn't point it out to her. Some things you just can't unsee. It improved as I adjusted the settings. The picture wizard is quite good.-the edge lighting is more viewable as you move to the opposite side. For example, if I sit left of center, the right side of the screen becomes "less black" because of that side's edge light. Vice versa- the magic remote is pretty nice, but not totally necessary..I wouldn't spend extra if it wasn't already included. There's not really any better way to explain it than comparing it to a Wii Remote. it also comes with another remote that has more buttons. Neither is what I would call a universal remote.-the built in apps are cool. If you have a receiver with ARC, it's great to just click on Netflix, vudu, whatever and have the receiver switch over. The apps also work well. There are maybe 20apps or so? Netflix, Hulu, Amazon on demand (yes, watch the free stuff if you have Prime shipping), Pandora, Facebook, and some other ones that I don't recall.-PS3 and Xbox 360 with kinect work just fine through my Onkyo r360 receiver. PS3 played Tangled blu ray with zero issues. I even put Ratchet and Clank in 3d conversion mode and it was pretty cool.-speaking of, the 2d to 3d conversion is fun. It doesn't always work, but I'd say it's probably 85% right. I played Spongebob from Netflix and it got it mostly right, but there were times where his body, pants and legs were in the foreground, but his belt would be put in the background. Stuff like that. Generally, though, really cool.In all, I like it. If you are the kind of person who NEEDS the blackest blacks, don't get it. But, passive 3d, large screen and 3d conversion sold me vs some other sets.

5Amazing TV Set
By ringnjc
Install:Just received the TV yesterday via freight shipping. Package was in great shape and the delivery men wanted me to open the box and test the TV before they left. This set is absolutely stunning even when it is off! The great news is that it's even more amazing on. It is fairly thin at less than 1" and is a claimed 93lbs without the stand. It seemed alot heavier, but it may just be the sheer size of the TV that makes the weight awkward to handle. I mounted it with a super slim Sanus mount with the help of another person, of course, I'm no hulk! I did not have an inset electrical outlet, so I had to buy one of those flat three prong extension cords in order to be able to get the TV close enough to the wall to snap in the bottom. Since I mounted it above my fireplace mantle I got a tilting mount so that I could tilt the set downward since it sits about 5.5' above the ground.Features:I was most excited about the Cinema 3D so I will start there:-uses the same cheap glasses as in the theaters, which is great.-they are light weight and no worries if a kid breaks them, plus we have a collection of smaller glasses the kids get when going to see a 3D flick.-The 3D quality is bright, very dimensional, and does not give me a migraine like the active shutter sets do. There is no flickering and dimming.-True 3D content from the HD satellite Receiver or blu-ray is just gorgeous. better than the theaters as the screen is brighter.-2D to 3D actually works and adds dimension to almost any show you're watching. It's fun to play with.-My overall opinion is that Cinema 3D is the new standard until we can all go sans glasses some day2D HD quality:I am no videophile, but the pure 2D HD quality is fantastic, and amazing considering this set is 65".Colors are vibrant, blacks are deep, overall i am very pleased.Apps and Magic remote:-the Magic remote is very much like a Wii remote and really makes using the apps, web browser and other features a breeze. you can also download the LG TV remote for your ios device and control the TV that way, worked really well.-There are the standard set of apps including netflix as well as other freebies and ones you can buy. There is 256mb of built in storage, but with a limited amount of apps, and most coming in under 5mb, storage space won't be an issue, and you may be able to harness an extra USB stick, but I am not 100% sure.Wireless adaptor:I could not get the included wireless adapter to work with my d-Link wireless router, so I had to pull out my old trusty Linksys G router and the LG adapter recognized it right away. I tried many security options, and wireless speeds to no avail on the d-link, which works with every other device in my house, PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Vizio TV, etc...Conclusion:For around $3000 I don't think you'll find a more desirable and feature rich set out there.

4Nice, but not perfect
By Mike
This is a nice TV but it has some flaws. Unfortunately all 3D televisions sold at this time have flaws so you have to pick your battles. I was torn between the 65 inch Panasonic Plasma or this set as both are about the same price. A friend bought a Panasonic GT30 series and has constant issues with burn in (real burn-in, not just IR) as the newest plasmas seem to have worse issues with that than the older 2009-2010 models. Not sure why the newer (3D) plasmas have issues with IR and burn-in like early plasmas, but I'm a gamer and I didn't want to have to worry about burn-in. I already knew that the picture wouldn't be quite as uniform and not to expect jet blacks so I wasn't surprised when I saw some light bleed at the edges of this set on a totally black scene or some very faint clouding on perfectly uniform scenes like a white background in a commercial. Fortunately the mura and cloudiness are quite faint and are confined to the edges so they are not nearly as bad as the Sharp Aquos 65D64U 65 inch LCD it replaced. Here's a rundown of the pros and cons that I've found in just a few days of ownership.Pros(1) Bright, sharp, very detailed picture.(2) No one in the family had issues with seeing lines in the passive 3D picture.(3) 3D picture is fantastic. No headaches from wearing heavy active glasses.(4) Vertical offset not really an issue at typical viewing distances, even with wall mounting.(5) Good smart TV apps, but I don't use those much.(6) Off angle (side) viewing is excellent: very little contrast/color shift.(7) Massive array of settings/features: could be a "con" too as you can get lost in them!(8) Nice sturdy base has left/right swivel.(9) Tru Motion option is incredible: can smooth out any slow-frame-rate source.Cons(1) ~150ms lag w/default settings, see [...](2) Can't use optical audio out on TV to sync sound because it only passes stereo sound.(3) Blacks are not plasma black obviously, but not bad for an LCD.(4) Some mura and light bleeding but improved by massaging screen stress points w/cloth.(5) Incredibly annoying idiot warning w/3D content: can't be disabled.(6) Glossy screen shows every reflection: reflections can ruin the 3D effect.Summary: overall I'm quite happy with this set. The passive 3D is better than I expected and comparable to my friend's Panasonic GT30 plasma in quality. Half-res 3D due to the passive technology doesn't seem to be a factor beyond about 8 feet. And no one should buy an LCD expecting perfectly uniform picture and jet blacks like a plasma. So from what I was expecting, I'm quite impressed. This set lost one star in my review for two primary reasons: the set can't pass proper DD 5.1 sound from HDMI input to optical out, and because of the idiotic warning that pops up every time you go from 2D to 3D mode. LG needs to add a way to acknowledge that warning once and then not display it in the future.Mike

5Fantastic television: phenomenal picture, features galore, good looks, but PRICEY!
By J. Steven
This television replaced a Sony KDL-40S2000 I had purchased. During my 30-day return policy I realized if I were to invest (ha!) in a LCD television I should get one with a full 1080 resolution. I returned the KDL-40S2000 and got this model.Out of the box the television is gorgeous, however, a bit wider and thicker than my previous Bravia. Not a problem for me, but check the measurements before you buy.Picture quality is phenomenal; previous to this set I've always been a tube/CRT guy due to their better picture quality when compared to plasmas and LCDs. I think the technology has finally caught up with CRT quality with this TV. Great (but not perfect) black levels and more detail than you really need in a 40" television. I will say there is a difference between a 720p panel and 1080p panel in my tests. Motion on high definition sources is also very good. The picture quality on standard definition sources could be better, but I am watching less and less standard definition every day.I was surprised by the amount of tweaks and features present on this television. A few notable features include: A full pixel mode which takes your high definition source and displays it pixel for pixel on your set, something I've never seen on a HDTV before. This feature does wonders for sources outputting a 1080 signal, including my modded Xbox which outputs the interface and DVD signals in 1080i. You can literally walk up to the TV and see the pixels 1:1 just like a computer monitor. This full pixel mode does have a caveat, some HD broadcasts have some extra pixels on the side or top of the frame that appear in this mode, but it's a fine trade off for the 1:1 resolution. The extra pixels are the result of the broadcaster and not the TV.The other valuable feature is the ability to adjust the wide viewing mode when viewing any sort of signal including high definition. My previous HDTV was locked into "Wide/Full" mode when watching 1080i content. The KDL-40XBR2 lets you choose which viewing mode when watching high-definition content. I use this feature when I watch inside the NFL on HBO-HD. They broadcast the program using a 1080i signal, but the show is actually standard definition displayed in a 4:3 frame (when is HBO gonna start shooting this show in HD?). The zoom mode allows me to zoom the picture and watch the program using the whole screen. I wouldn't have had this option with my previous HD sets.Because I don't like artificial sharpness or edge creation I always turn the sharpness down very low or off on my televisions. Most TVs look ideal when the sharpness is set low so no artificial edges are created. Don't do this on the KDL-40XBR2 because Sony has added some additional control with the sharpness adjustment. When I set the sharpness very low (Min - 10) I noticed the picture became very blurry, especially with text. At first I thought I had gotten a lemon, but later realized this is a feature. When the sharpness is low the TV seems to reverse the sharpness effect causing the picture to soften. Once I bumped the sharpness up to 35 the picture looked amazing with no artificial edges or blurriness. This functionality is different than most sets, but a perfect example of the level of adjustment the KDL-40XBR2 offers.Great looks, picture quality and enough tweaks to occupy hours fine-tuning the picture. This isn't a great set for someone who wants to take it out of the box and expect a great picture, but instead someone who is used to tweaking their A/V equipment to their preferences. Highly recommended if you've got the cash.

1Manufacturing defects affecting Sept '06 through present sets
By Randy Nelson
Sony's XBR line of LCD displays are near or at the top of the most amazing on the market in terms of picture quality, but anyone considering a purchase of an XBR2/3 model display should be aware that there is a significant manufacturing defect with displays produced post-August of 2006 that results in extremely splotchy or "cloudy" backlighting. During playback of dark content, clouds of bright spots can be seen across the display. Sony has yet to officially acknowledge this latest stumble in their production quality control, but do a search for "XBR clouding" and you will find plenty of discussion about this very real problem.I have personally owned this display and the defect was significant enough to warrant a return. I opted not to get a replacement knowing that so many of these displays in the channel are affected. When (hopefully not "if") Sony is able to remedy the production problem and get non-defective sets to retail, I would easily rate it a five-star product and re-purchase one for my home theater.

5AMAZING TV...But....Clouding Issues are a problem!
By Woots
I have owned a 46xbr3 for over a month now. I would 1st like to say that the image of this TV is awesome. The menu options you have to tweak the look of the image is very very detailed. It helps if you run component and HDMI signals and need to have different tweaked settings to optimize look and reduce pixelization. 1080p with your playstation 3, blu ray or hd dvd players. The tv does not run 1080p component, only hdmi and vga, so your xbox 360 will have to run in 1080i (still looks great). The xbox 360 does run 1080p through vga input on this tv but xbox360 makes the screen look washed out.Clouding Issue:There is however a manufacturing defect that is not officially published by sony and no recall is yet in effect. The Sony LCD flatpanels XBR2/XBR3 40"/46"/52" screens have a greater then 50% chance to have a defect nicknamed "clouding". I am one of those unlucky buyers. What "clouding" basically is, is white puffy looking background lighting, when screen is black. This is not to be confused with non uniform lighting often seen in PC lcd panels; This is much worse and much brighter and heavily blotchy. For most people with this problem (including myself) you can only see this clouding during times when the screen goes black. (credits at the end of the movies, transitions between commercials to tv shows, dark parts scenes in movies and shows.) During these dark scenes they stand out like a sore thumb and make viewing distracting; due to the fact they are very bright and whitish. My experience is the longer the TV stays turned on the brighter these clouds get. When you 1st turn on the Tv they are very faint. They also have an odd habit of shifting around the panel very slowly over the course of weeks. (as strange as this may sound) I have found the clouding does not discolor or overbrighten the screen when the TV has full colorful images on it. This is why this problem is tolerable and I did not demand my money back, its still not acceptable though. I have read a few users say their clouding is so bad it effects the colors and makes them washed out. Thankfully I have not seen that. Please do not take my word for any of this I encourage you to be a critical thinker and go out on google and seek this "sony lcd clouding" issue. I am doing my part for the small community of us who are stuck with this sad problem overshadowing what is otherwise an absolutely great HDTV.In closing this TV is beautiful looking but when you spend this much money you don't want things like this bringing down your morale over the product. If you buy this TV you could be one of the lucky buyers and get an untainted screen and most stores give you a 30 day return policy. I have also heard (not confirmed) that the newest manufactured models have fixed this issue. I gave the product 5 stars despite the flaw, because even with this flaw I love this TV.Best of luck with your HDTV purchases. Hope this helps.

4Great TV - Great Service
By Jimmy D
Ordered this TV from Amazon on Sunday night October 22. It was delivered on Thursday, October 26. It came direct from Amazon and had free shipping. It's strange, sometimes Amazon has it, and sometimes it's available from a 3rd party. In any event, I paid $1,999 with free shipping. The delivery was prompt and arrived in excellent condition. My son works with ESPN as a Technical Director and he helped me select the TV. He's a technical whiz at this stuff. We visited several stores and looked at various makes. He was trying to steer me to a DLP but I didn't like the narrow viewing angle and it would not have suited my room. I originally wanted a 42" plasma but discovered I had to stick to a 40" since my TV room is somewhat small. We finally narrowed it down to Toshiba, Sony, & Panasonic. Because I needed a 40", I had to go to an LCD or the Panny 37" plasma, which to me was too small. Not sorry I went LCD. I has no screen glare or burn-in problems, although I understand the plasmas now have the burn-in under control. And, it seems I sacrificed nothing as far as the picture quality goes. We finally chose the Samsung. The Samsungs have it over the other TV's in the same price range both for features and picture quality. We were almost going to get the LN-S4092D, but then we saw this model which has 1080p capability. While not being used now, it is a feature for the future. Also, look for a unit with dual HDMI inputs. You may not need both now, but you will like it later. When you go into a store, first thing is to tone down the TV's you're looking at. They have them cranked up to max contrast & brightness. Usually the sets will have a "movie" viewing mode. Change it to that. If they don't have that, cut the contrast and brightness to at least 60-75%, the sharpness to 10% or less, and the color temp to a "warm" setting. That will tone it down to a good level tha will allow you to see the TV's real capabilities. Then, have the salesman put a real SD signal through it. Not a pre-recorded looped signal that splits the screen HD/SD. On some of those they exagerate the SD bluriness to make the HD look better. This Samsung has a great SD picture. Yes, it's not HD, but it's very acceptable and not much worse than my old CRT TV. The HD picture is fabulous. I am in NJ and we have Comcast Digital cable with a DVR. I was watching the World Series last night and when they had a close up of the pitcher, you could count his wiskers. The side-to-side viewing fades a little when you get too far, but it's not real noticable and who watches from that extreme angle anyway? The swivel stand helps. The sound is good TV sound. It's not home-theater quality, but it's good. It has a built-in graphic equalizer so you can customize the sound you like. The other thing that I liked about this TV is the limited surround. It made the overall size a little smaller than the other 40" units which helped me out considerably as I mentioned earlier. And the gloss "piano black" gives it a classy look. Nicer than the silver. I didn't give it a 5 rating, because I just got it, and to me nothing is perfect. There is always room for improvement. But, I love it. A great choice.

5Looks Great!
By Timothy Wintemberg
I've had this HDTV for about two weeks and I love it. I toured various retailers looking at many models before I decided on this unit. To me it looked better than any other model than perhaps one higher-priced (by +$600) top of the line Sony which looked marginally better.HD programming looks absolutely fantastic especially since I also got a Comcast HD DVR hooked up as well. Broadcast TV looks very good although occasionally certain ads, programs or channels may have more noise (relative to either bandwidth set by digital cable company or original video source settings). Interestingly, the one or two noisy channels (I believe the fault lies with the cable company, not this TV) look better if I switch my input from HDMI to the pass-through coaxial input--this gives a slight fuzz to the image, but largely gets rid of the noise.Having worked with/ dealt with/ numerous plasma screens over the last 4 years at work, I am wary of claims that they have overcome burn-in issues. The models we bought last year showed significant burn-in from 5 minute video loops (after about 50 hours of pre-conditioning play of non-repeating video) in just a couple of weeks. While video loops are way worse than any normal viewing, I do play games that will have a speedometer, etc. on the screen for hours, so . . . LCD was the way for me.Coudn't be happier with the TV, my wife is wowed and my 6 year old said it was like we were sitting next to the helicopter pilot during a Discovery HD program. The price has fallen about $300 since I purchased the unit--so it's a real deal now. I used Amazon for shipping and, other than it taking a few weeks to wind its way here (saved $$), it arrived on schedule, undamadged and was quickly unpacked and set in place by their delivery crew. I had already run my cables and removed the old TV so in literally 5 minutes after they arrived (and I did a quick pixel check, etc.) they were on their way, along with the packing materials.I'm totally happy with this marvelous device so far, but two tiny things and these may be common to other units but they aren't things that show up on the showroom floor: switching video sources is fairly quick, but it takes a second or two to tune in the HDMI source (maybe it has to wind up signal processing?) and it takes about 5 seconds from when you turn the TV on until it actually comes on (I turned off the little chime that lets you know its doing something)--but I think the in-laws got confused and kept turning it on and off before it finished.

5Stunning!
By Worldfalls
I purchased this TV via Amazon a week or so ago and the purchase was made through Electronics Expo. All dealings with the purchase and delivery went smoothly.I was originally planning to purchase the 46", but believe me, these TV's look smaller in the stores than they will in your home. I'm wholeheartedly happy with the size of this TV and glad I made the choice to buy the 40".You wouldn't believe the picture on this TV. It's just as beautiful as it looks in the stores. If you're not a huge sports fan, watching football on this TV will convert you! Any kind of sports are unbelievable because the TV's picture is so striking.I agree with the last reviewer that the lacquer finish is disappointing, not necessarily because of the bling-bling effect (I do live in Atlanta after all ;)), but because it dulls the blacks that the TV produces a bit. Strangely enough, I never noticed that while I was researching which TV to purchase. Some reviewers have mentioned that this TV makes a clicking noise when it's searching for sources. Mine does in fact do that, but it only lasts for a couple of seconds where two or three clicks will occur. This does not bother me at all, because honestly, I can only hear it if the rest of the house is quiet and the TV volume is turned very low. I wouldn't let that stop you from making a purchase. As with any other expensive TV, I'd recommend purchasing the right cables for the best picture quality and also investing in an up-convert DVD player if you're avoiding the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD debacle as I am. That way you can enjoy your new TV and movies until the prices on the true HD DVD players come down.Bottom line: I recommend this TV 100% if you're looking to purchase an LCD TV rather than a plasma as I was. The TV interface is also very sleek and user-friendly. A great option for you if you're in the market for a 1080p LCD TV!

4Great HDTV, Huge Screen
By SMcrossbay
I have had this tv for 1 1/2 years now. The lamp died about 2 weeks before the manufacturer's warranty was up so i got a free one. Mitsubishi was very easy to work with, I faxed them my original invoice gave them the serial number and they sent a new lamp in 4 days, no cost to us at all. We only paid $599 for this HDTV, got it brand new on clearance sale so we feel like we got a awesome deal on this. I STRONGLY suggest the purchase of extended warranties on these if possible, the lamps cost approx. $240 to replace. We now have another year and a half extended warranty from the store we bought it from that will cover any work, parts & labor and a one time lamp replacement (we were lucky to be able to have the manufacturer replace the first lamp:) Overall great product. I Like the fact that it allows each input to be adjusted with individual video & audio settings. This model has Picture-In-Picture capability, and our satalite reciever also has P.I.P so we have the ability to watch 4 programs(football games:) at the same time. HD programing is superb. I hook up my computer through the side S-Video panel to play online games and its awesome.Problems: Only problem we have had so far is the lamp going out. It still had 2 weeks left under Mitsubishi's one year warranty so they sent us a replacement through the mail with instructions on how to install, it was easy to install. Make sure you hang on to your original reciept/invoice in case of warranty issues and always register new products with the manufacturer. Some companies require you to register products with them in order to activate your warranty and if you don't register it they don't have to honer the warranty! Always read the fine print. Recently the lamp light came on again and it seemed the after only about 5-6 months the new lamps had died. When i took the lamp out the go get it replaced i noticed that it looked just fine. I plugged it back in, closed tha panel hit the reset button, and it has worked just fine for almost 2 weeks now. I called mitsubishi and they said if it was bad it would most likely looked like it blew up inside the lamp and the tv might give a false dead lamp light and in order to fix it you have to open the lamp panel, take out the lamp, re-insert it, close the panel(tv will not turn on with the panel open,) hit the reset button, then see if it works.

4Solid HD picture. NO reflections from screen!
By Aaron
This review is for anyone considering purchase of a used WD-62531 (or the related models like WD-62530), because I found very few reviews when buying one.I purchased a used WD-62531 and it has a solid picture for HD source material. I've had it for about a week. General impressions:* BIG screen* Good quality image with HD source material. Even at 720p, still makes me sit there and watch nature programs that are quite lifelike* Mediocre quality with SD sources. Stretch mode is bad and distractive, so I view in 4:3 ratio with black bars on sides* Compact cabinet, especially with the matching stand (base of TV slides into custom contouring on stand). Screen is not overly high from ground so no neck strain if sitting on floor. Slides very nicely into a corner of the room.* Wide viewing angles, horizontal & vertical* Absolutely NO reflections off the screen. Quite astounding. I previously had a TV that was quite reflective and distracting. The 62531's screen doesn't reflect anything* Minor screen-door effect where things shimmer. Only noticed a couple of times on backgrounds with subtle gradients, like ice in a hockey game, and the blue sea in Finding Nemo.* Skin-tone color isn't quite right - slightly reddish. I'm still making some adjustments to the color settings, so perhaps with a little more experimentation this will improve.
